We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineerto support our Concord, California facility.
Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer is based in Concord, CA. The position is responsible for supporting and sustaining existing production lines while driving manufacturability improvements for new product introductions (NPI). This role focuses on developing, implementing, and refining manufacturing methods, tooling, and workflows to optimize cost, quality, and efficiency. The Manufacturing Engineer collaborates cross-functionally with design, production, quality, and supply chain teams, and provides technical guidance to ensure seamless production operations and continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Sustain and improve existing production processes, ensuring ongoing product quality, cost control, and manufacturability.
Integrate manufacturing considerations into new product introduction (NPI) processes to ensure smooth transition from design to production.
Develop and implement efficient manufacturing methods, operation sequences, and tooling strategies for parts fabrication, finishing, assembly, and testing.
Analyze and revise production processes for cost reduction, improved quality, and process control.
Provide technical guidance to production teams and serve as a liaison between manufacturing and engineering design teams.
Create and maintain detailed assembly guides, procedures, work instructions, and visual aids.
Support root cause analysis of non-conforming parts and recommend corrective actions or disposition.
Utilize statistical methods (e.g., SPC, DOE) to monitor, analyze, and improve production processes.
Contribute to cost studies, capacity analysis, and capital equipment recommendations.
Assist and mentor less experienced manufacturing engineers and technicians.
Support Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to drive continuous improvement.
Participate in cross-functional teams to solve problems and drive operational excellence.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Technical degree (e.g., Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering) or equivalent experience.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a manufacturing engineering role, preferably in complex electro-mechanical or electronic systems.
Demonstrated experience with new product startup and sustaining engineering.
Proven project leadership skills and ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
Prior training and hands-on application of Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma tools.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, work instructions, and assembly methods.
Experience using statistical tools such as JMP, Minitab, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with inertial sensors and systems is a strong plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, ERP/MRP systems, and engineering productivity tools.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly present technical data and recommendations.
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Self-motivated, highly organized, and thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
The salary range for this role is $105,000-$125,000 annually. Emcore also offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and Company-paid holidays.
