Opportunity Overview

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is seeking an **accomplished and forward-thinking Chair of Anesthesia** to lead one of Central Pennsylvania’s most respected anesthesia departments. This is a rare opportunity for a dynamic physician leader to define the future of anesthesia care across a top-ranked regional health system and within the broader Penn Medicine network.

The Chair will oversee all anesthesia services for **Lancaster General Hospital** – a 602-bed, Level One Trauma Center and U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospital” – as well as several outpatient and ambulatory locations. The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical experience, strategic insight, and a passion for fostering collaboration and clinical excellence.

The Role

As the **executive clinical and operational leader** for anesthesia services, the Chair will:

+ **Shape a vision** for comprehensive, high-quality anesthesia care across inpatient and outpatient sites.

+ **Lead a talented team** of 35 anesthesiologists and more than 60 CRNAs dedicated to exceptional care and safety.

+ **Drive a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement** , ensuring high reliability and zero harm.

+ **Partner closely with hospital and system leadership** to align departmental goals with Penn Medicine’s mission and strategic priorities.

+ **Advance clinical innovation and operational performance** through data-driven quality, safety, and efficiency initiatives.

+ **Oversee financial and resource stewardship** , including budgeting, productivity, and operational planning.

+ **Promote professional growth** and engagement across the department.

Qualifications

+ MD or DO from an accredited medical school

+ Completion of an accredited anesthesiology residency

+ Board Certification in Anesthesiology

+ Eligibility for unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license

+ Demonstrated leadership experience in a complex healthcare organization

+ Proven ability to build teams, inspire collaboration, and achieve measurable quality and operational outcomes
