    Nurse Extern Cohort - Winter 2025

     

    Henry Ford Rochester is seeking nursing students for our December cohort!

     

    Resume and Transcripts must be submitted at time of application to be considered for the 2025 Winter Nurse Extern Cohort

     

    About the program

     

    + Minimum 36 hours per 6-week schedule, in a combination of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts based on RN preceptor's schedule

    + In-person clinical orientation the first week of the program, mentoring from nurses, leaders, and networking

    + Paid clinical experience

    + Variety of clinical areas based on availability

    + Work 1:1 with an RN preceptor in assigned clinical area

    + Opportunities for continued employment if program expectations are met

    To qualify for a Summer Nurse Extern position you must:

    + Be currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred)

    + Complete two clinical rotations, one of which must be Med/Surg (in an acute care setting) by start date

    + Provide a copy of school transcripts

    + Must be available for orientation everyday December 15-17 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

    + Must be able to work minimum 3 12-hour shifts every 6 weeks

    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision of a nurse, provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

     

    + Complete assigned nursing orders as directed by preceptor, including assisting patient with activities of daily living and taking vital signs.

    + Observe patient status and responses. Document and report observations to preceptor or other appropriate staff.

    + Assist preceptor with development of care plan by reporting test results and patient observations.

    + Perform other tasks as assigned, including environmental services and preparing/transporting patients for diagnostic services.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    + High school diploma/GED required.

    + Currently enrolled in an accredited registered nurse education program.

    + Successful completion of Fundamentals and Medical/Surgical 1 courses.

    + Preferred ADN or BSN, 3.0 GPA or better.

    CERTIFICATION/LICENSES REQUIRED:

    + BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
