Job Summary

Tests, maintains and repairs the fire alarm, fire suppression and support systems located throughout the Royal Oak campus and offsite buildings. Ensures fire alarm and fire suppression systems meet standards dictated by state and local Fire Marshall's and JCAHO. Makes recommendations when problems arise during new construction or as a result of outdated or unsupportable equipment. Educate and train hospital staff on fire prevention and suppression procedures and equipment.

Essential Functions

+ Conducts an ongoing test program to ensure proper operation of the fire alarm signaling systems and the automatic fire sprinkler systems located throughout the campus and offsite buildings. Tests all smoke detectors, signals and fire doors. Tests all flow and tamper switches and fire pumps. Drains down sprinkler system for updates. Recommends solutions and equipment to help maintain the integrity of the fire alarm and fire suppression systems.

+ Maintains and repairs the fire alarm, fire suppression and support systems. Maintains an ongoing preventative maintenance program for the fire alarm and fire suppression systems to reduce the possibility of false alarms and system malfunctions. Troubleshoots and repairs any deficiencies found during testing. Troubleshoots shutdowns due to pressure switches or shunt trips in the fire alarm/fire suppression system. Disables fire detection and suppression systems to allow for completion of ongoing construction projects on the campus. Schedules all maintenance, testing and service to ensure minimal disruption to patients and hospital personnel.

+ Maintains up-to-date as-built drawings for all fire systems. Notes any discrepancies found during the testing/preventative maintenance programs. Ensures fire alarm and fire suppression systems meet standards dictated by state and local Fire Marshall’s and JCAHO. Ensures supplies are available for repair or replacement, including fire panels, various sprinkler heads, flow switches and tamper devices.

+ Makes recommendations. Recommends solutions, practices and equipment to respond to issues that arise during new construction or with respect to outdated and unsupported equipment.

+ Schedules labor to complete all work orders to standards.

+ Attends meetings as representative of department in absence of Supervisor.

+ Maintains supply of spare parts. Inspects inventory and procures replacement parts as needed. Ensures that adequate supplies are maintained.

+ Educates and trains Corewell Health staff members on proper fire prevention and suppression procedures and equipment.

+ Uses tools and equipment appropriately. Knows when and how to use tools and equipment to perform the job in an efficient, effective and safe manner. Consistently uses tools and equipment correctly on the job.

+ Maintains and contributes to a safe work environment. Adheres to all safety policies, procedures and practices, including the wearing of protective clothing and gear.

+ Models the behaviors embodied in the Essence of BSC. As a member of BSC, takes responsibility for constructively confronting and resolving problems. Participates in open communication and teamwork activities. Delivers on commitments in a high quality and timely fashion. Demonstrates pride in the organization.

Qualifications

Required

+ Associate degree or bachelor's degree in electrical or hydraulic.

+ 3 years of relevant experience in application of electric and fire alarm circuits.

+ 3 years of relevant experience in application of fire suppression and prevention processes and procedures.

+ CRT-Level II Certification - NICET National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies OR

+ LIC-Fire Alarm Specialty Technician License State of Michigan OR

+ LIC-ELECTRICAL_JOURNEYMAN_LICENSE-STATE_MI OR

+ LIC-Electrician, Master - STATE_MI State of Michigan
