    Description

    The Manager, Digital & Social supports the day-to-day management of GMHC’s digital and social media presence, helping to bring the organization’s mission, services, and stories to life online. This role focuses on execution, producing content, managing posting schedules, and engaging communities while contributing light strategic input and collaborating across teams.

     

    By maintaining consistency, supporting campaign execution, and surfacing insights, the Manager helps GMHC sustain a dynamic, inclusive, and mission-driven digital voice.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    The Manager, Digital & Social will be responsible for the following duties:

    Content Creation and Execution

     

    + Produce, publish, and manage content across GMHC’s social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, and emerging channels).

    + Capture and edit short-form video, create social graphics (Canva/Adobe Express), and write platform-specific copy.

    + Provide on-site coverage of events, programs, and campaigns.

    + Maintain consistent posting to maximize audience engagement and growth.

     

    Digital Advertising Support

     

    + Assist in the setup, monitoring, and reporting of paid digital campaigns (Meta, Google Ads, YouTube, etc.).

    + Support the Director, Digital & Social in trafficking and QA’ing creative assets for paid campaigns.

    + Coordinate timelines and deliverables with external vendors or media partners.

    + Track ad performance and surface weekly optimization recommendations (budget pacing, creative performance, etc.).

    + Learn and apply basic targeting and audience segmentation principles.

    + Maintain documentation of campaign performance and ad spending.

     

    Digital Brand Consistency & Stewardship

     

    + Ensure all content reflects GMHC’s brand voice, tone, and accessibility standards.

    + Apply stigma-free, people-first language in all messaging.

    + Uphold cohesive digital storytelling across channels.

     

    Collaboration and Integration

     

    + Partner with the Communications & Branding team to align digital activity with larger campaigns.

    + Collaborate with Development, Programs, and Policy teams to amplify fundraising, advocacy, and service priorities.

    + Support cross-departmental digital requests and provide best-practice guidance.

     

    Campaign and Calendar Management

     

    + Maintain and update the digital content calendar.

    + Execute social media campaigns highlighting GMHC’s programs, advocacy, and events.

    + Develop simple digital toolkits and templates for staff and partners.

     

    Community Engagement & Outreach

     

    + Monitor and respond to comments, DMs, and mentions in a timely, mission-aligned way.

    + Build relationships with influencers, creators, and peer organizations for digital amplification.

    + Support rapid-response posting and social listening during advocacy or crisis moments.

     

    Analytics & Optimization

     

    + Track and report weekly KPIs across organic and paid digital channels using Sprout Social, Google Analytics, Met Ads Manager, and similar tools.

    + Test content formats, share insights, and recommend optimizations.

    + Provide monthly dashboards and recommendations to the Director/Managing Director.

     

    Supervision & Project Management

     

    + Supervise interns or contractors, providing feedback and guidance.

    + Manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining high quality and meeting deadlines.

    + Coordinate asset creation and approvals with Creative Services.

    Requirements

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

    Innovation and Trend Awareness

     

    + Stay current on social media trends, algorithms, and platform updates.

    + Surface new creative opportunities for engagement and storytelling.

     

    Evaluation

     

    + Deliver routine reports on engagement, reach, and conversion.

    + Recommend refinements to content cadence and strategy based on data.

    SPECIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    Required

    + 3–5 years of professional experience managing social and digital content.

    + Familiarity with (or interest in learning) paid digital media platforms such as Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, and YouTube Campaign Manager.

    + Basic understanding of ad formats, audience targeting, and performance metrics.

    + Demonstrated experience in short-form video, graphics, and copywriting for multiple platforms.

    + Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to juggle multiple priorities.

    + Excellent writing and communication skills across platforms.

    + Commitment to inclusive, stigma-free, and people-first communication.

    + Deep awareness of and alignment with LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities.

    EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

    + Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field is preferred or equivalent professional experience.

    TECHNICAL SKILLS

    Applicants must demonstrate an intermediate to high level of proficiency in:

    Microsoft Office Suite - Intermediate to advanced proficiency in the following suite applications:

    + Word: Skilled in drafting reports, campaign briefs, and web copy.

    + Excel: Proficient in data entry, spreadsheet management, and creating visual data representations.

    + PowerPoint: Experienced in designing clear, engaging presentations tailored to varied audiences.

    + Outlook: Coordinating communications, calendars, and project workflows.

     

    Digital Marketing Platforms & Tools

     

    + Social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, YouTube).

    + Sprout Social or similar scheduling/analytics tools.

    + Canva, Adobe Express, basic Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere Pro).

    + Project management tools (Asana or equivalent).

    + Google Ads, Meta Business Suite/Ads Manager (basic level or willingness to train).

    + Google Analytics (GA4) for campaign and website tracking.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT & SCHEDULE

    + Hybrid/Office Work: Combination of in-office and remote work at the manager’s discretion, based on departmental and agency needs.

    + Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work non-traditional hours (evenings and weekends) as needed.

    + Events: Attendance required to support and cover organizational events.

    + Travel: Occasional travel to community events, media opportunities, or off-site engagements.

    + AIDS Walk New York: Participation in the annual AIDS Walk New York event is mandatory for all GMHC staff.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While carrying out the responsibilities of this role:

    + Travel & Mobility: Occasional travel within New York City to attend community events, vendors, or press opportunities. Tasks may include transporting small equipment (e.g., camera, laptop, promotional materials).

    + Physical Activity: Primarily sedentary office work with periods of active engagement at events, including photography, live social media coverage, and digital setup. May include occasional lifting of items up to 20 pounds.

    + Sitting/Standing: Extended periods of sitting for computer-based tasks, balanced with periods of standing/moving at events or community engagements.

    + Communications: Frequent verbal and written communication with staff, consultants, and external stakeholders, including public-facing interactions during events.
