    Office receptionist responsible for checking patients in and out and scheduling appointments

     

    Position Title: Office Receptionist

     

    Department: Pulmonary Associates

     

    Purpose: Responsible for coordinating all patient activities including greeting patient/families, processing patient registrations in an efficient and courteous manner, obtaining accurate patient demographics and insurance information and obtaining all necessary consents. Serves as the initial point of contact for patients coming into the clinics. Ability to explain patient account charges, insurance verification and data entry for patient charges. Greets, instructs, directs and schedules all patients and visitors. Transfers incoming phone calls to appropriate clinic staff and physicians. Serves as a liaison between patient and medical support staff including organizing and coordinating request to Provider’s inbox and completing medical records request.

     

    Report To: Manager, Clinic

     

    Supervisory Responsibility: No Supervision: The job does not require the provision of guidance or supervision to others. There is no formal responsibility for directing others.

     

    Materials Responsibility: Very Limited. Work requires very limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include personal work materials, supplies or equipment, or very small amounts of cash. The employee has a very limited or indirect amount of control over these resources. Although human error might require the repair or replacement of materials, usually the cost of correcting these errors is minor. The variety and volume of resources is also very limited. Problems associated with material resources are very uncomplicated.

     

    Key Relationship: Co-workers/Health System Employees, Outside Agencies/Other Health Care Providers, General Public/Visitors/Volunteers, Patients, Families, and Significant Others, Third Party Payors/Insurance Companies, Vendors/Clients, Physicians/Medical Office Staff, Students/Interns/Residents/Outside Instructors, Auditors/Review Agencies.

    POSITION SPECIFICATION

    Education: High school graduation or equivalent

     

    Special Training: Basic Life Support; Medical Office Procedures

     

    Training Preferred: Effective communication skills, medical terminology

     

    Experience: Less than 1 year experience required.

     

    Interpersonal Skills: Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are of moderate difficulty and sensitivity. Contact with others may involve detailed & lengthy dialogues & exchanges of information. Requires a moderate amount of interpersonal skills. Interactions involve dealing with moderately complicated problem situations or stressful encounters.

     

    Working Conditions: There is limited exposure to moderately

     

    adverse and undesirable environmental conditions. There are some health and safety risks. Position may require safety equipment and precautions. The amount of time the employee may experience these moderate conditions is limited to 35% or less of their work day.
