JOB SUMMARY
The North American Assistant Controller is a key leadership role within the Finance organization, responsible for overseeing and supporting the accounting and financial reporting functions across North America. This individual will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of month-end and quarter-end close processes, support internal and external audits, and drive compliance with internal controls and accounting policies. The Assistant Controller will also play an active role in financial analysis, variance analysis, budgeting support, and cross-functional collaboration, while leading and developing a high-performing accounting team.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Serve as a core member of the North American finance leadership team, providing strategic insights and technical accounting expertise to support business performance and growth.
+ Lead the development and enhancement of accounting processes, aligning accounting operations with business objectives.
+ Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, FP&A, and Corporate Finance to ensure alignment between financial reporting and commercial outcomes.
+ Oversee the end-to-end accounting processes across multiple U.S. entities, including general ledger, income statement, balance sheet, revenue recognition, intercompany accounting, and fixed assets.
+ Conduct variance analysis of financial results, focusing on operating expenses, by evaluating actuals against budget and prior year.
+ Support and guide accounting processes across Canadian and Mexican Operations
+ Prepare and review of internal financial reports, ensuring accuracy and consistency with corporate standards.
+ Ensure timely and accurate month-end and quarter-end close processes across multiple entities and currencies.
+ Maintain full compliance with U.S. GAAP, local statutory requirements, internal controls, and corporate accounting policies.
+ Monitor and analyze financial KPIs to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
+ Lead and coordinate with internal and external auditors during audits. · Strengthen internal control frameworks to support financial integrity and reduce risk exposure across commercial activities.
+ Ensure compliance with evolving tax and regulatory requirements, including GST/HST and cross-border accounting regulations.
+ Manage, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals across multiple locations, promoting a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement.
+ Set clear goals, monitor performance, and support professional growth to build bench strength within the finance organization.
+ Leverage technology (e.g., ERP, FloQast, Concur, Plaful, etc.) to increase operational efficiency and data visibility.
+ Support implementation of system enhancements and finance transformation projects, ensuring optimal configuration and adoption.
+ Support the accounting and reconciliation of customer programs, rebates, and incentives, ensuring proper accruals, tracking, and alignment with program terms.
+ Collaborate with Sales and Commercial Finance teams to maintain accurate records of rebate liabilities and credit.
CORE SKILLS/COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA strongly preferred
+ 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including experience across multiple countries and multi-entity environment
+ Proven track record of leading and scaling accounting functions in a mid-to-large enterprise, with direct responsibility for a $1B+ organization and management of multiple direct reports (3-4)
+ Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, revenue recognition, intercompany transactions, and rebate/accounting for commercial programs.
+ Strong analytical mindset, communication skills, and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
+ Experience with multiple ERP systems and close management tools.
+ Excellent leadership, communication, and business partnering skills.
+ Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
+ Act as a proactive self-starter, generating innovative ideas to drive efficiency and profitability.
