They serve as a key educational resource for students and families, faculty and other university personnel on explaining accommodations, inclusive education practices, and institutional obligations under federal law. The ideal candidate will be motivated to progress campus wide initiatives and remove barriers for students with disabilities. The Accessibility Coordinator reports to the Director of Disability Services, under Campus Civil Rights. Duties and Responsibilities + Interacts with students, faculty, managers, administrators, employees, and community members at all levels of the University. + Works with Director, students, facilities and registrar on coordinating accessible classrooms. + Conducts short info-sessions with students, and prospective students on accommodations process. + Helps to ensure office coverage and manage supervision of student workers. + Assigns student notetakers and scribes and educates students on this accommodation process. + Assists with the intake of confidential student medical documentation, file management, scheduling and other office processes to optimize efficiency. + Collaborates with other campus and community offices as appropriate. + Works with ODS team to provide content for marketing, communication, education, and training. + Supervises students on an ongoing basis to solve accessibility related issues. + Oversees management of accommodations management software and other record keeping related tasks. + Collaborates with Director of ODS and specialists to pull data and run reports. + Engages in highly sensitive conversations with students, parents, and campus partners about disability related issues and impacts. + Related duties as required. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills + Associates degree in relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience + Interpersonal and problem-solving skills for working with a broad range of individuals. + Strong case management skills or other work managing confidential information appropriately. + Demonstrated skills using variety of software including word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database applications. Experience using Microsoft Office is preferred. + Demonstrated ability to deescalate conflict and navigate stressful/sensitive situations professionally and diplomatically. + Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal). Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills + Skilled in case management, advising, teaching or counseling. + Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field. + Professional experience in higher education, case management, health care, or relevant non-profit. + Demonstrated knowledge of disability law ( ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act) as it applies to individual accommodations. The Successful Candidate Will + Hold a passion for supporting individuals with disabilities. + Demonstrate the ability to interpret federal, state and local disability related laws and regulations. + Demonstrate strong organizational, administrative, planning, analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills and abilities as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to meet stringent deadlines. + Demonstrate the ability to multi-task and effectively manage multiple issues simultaneously. + Demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality. + Establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers as part of a team-oriented environment. + Demonstrate the ability to exhibit empathy and sensitivity to a variety of difficult interpersonal situations. + Maintain a strong degree of independence while ensuring that the Director of Disability Services is apprised of activities and progress on tasks.
