GA Family Services - Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Caseworker
Reports To: Program Manager of Health and Family Services
Position Status: Full-Time (40-hours per week)
Position Schedule: T he standard schedule is Monday through Friday, hours will vary based upon the needs of the youth/family
Salary Range: $21 to $25.89 per hour, commensurate with education and experience
GA Family Services, a division of Lutheran Social Services, is dedicated to strengthening families and empowering youth across Western New York. Our Accountability and Responsibility (A&R) Program helps teens build life skills, emotional regulation, and decision-making abilities that promote long-term success at home, in school, and in the community.
Purpose: The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Group Facilitator serves as a group leader within the Accountability and Responsibility (A&R) Program. This role focuses on guiding youth through social-emotional learning, life skills, and personal development activities—helping them build resilience, responsibility, and confidence. The SEL Facilitator also provides supportive phone follow-ups and home visits to reinforce learned skills and ensure ongoing engagement and progress.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree required
+ M aster’s degree preferred (Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Education, or related field)
+ Ex perience working with youth—especially adolescents—and their families
+ S trong background in social-emotional learning, treatment planning, and life skills coaching
+ E xcellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
+ A bility to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment
+ Must have own transportation, a valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance as required by NYS law.
Job Duties:
+ Lead Forward Thinking Series groups of up to 10 participants, three days per week.
+ Facilitate engaging, skill-based sessions designed to increase motivation, social-emotional awareness, and healthy decision-making.
+ Partner with Lead Facilitators and A&R program staff to enhance youth engagement and success in SEL and afterschool accountability activities.
+ Conduct support phone calls and home visits to reinforce learning, promote attendance, and address individual needs.
+ Track and maintain accurate attendance, participation, and progress data for all program participants.
+ Complete Life Skills Assessments and ensure eligible youth access Chafee funds to support normative experiences.
+ Collaborate closely with county case managers, planners, and other GA Family Services staff to ensure holistic, youth-centered care.
+ Attend case planning meetings, service plan reviews (SPRs), and other team meetings to represent youth voice and progress.
+ Document activities and progress notes in Connections at least weekly.
+ Support youth in developing workplace and educational readiness skills to promote long-term success.
+ Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining records, submitting receipts, and completing paperwork timely and accurately
+ Travel frequently using own vehicle to support home visits, meetings, and community-based programming (mileage reimbursement is available).
+ Participates in public relations events and assists other program staff as needed.
+ Safety – Follows required safety procedures
+ In-services – Attends all required in-service training.
