    Required Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience

     

    Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree or above in Civil Engineering.

     

    Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license, or active progress toward obtaining licensure (e.g., passed Fundamentals of Engineering exam, etc.).

     

    Demonstrated experience in both concrete and pavement materials.

     

    Experience writing technical articles, newsletters, and scholarly papers.

     

    Experience managing research projects.

    If so, the CP Tech Center (National Concrete Pavement Technology Center) at Iowa State University is currently seeking applicants for a Concrete Pavement Research Scientist, which will be classified as a Research Scientist III.

    What You'll Do:

    + Develop training programs and written materials for engineering professionals.

    + Write articles, newsletters, and scholarly papers.

    + Host and present webinars.

    + Maintain professional memberships and participate in related committees and conferences.

    + Plan and execute conferences, seminars, and workshops.

    + Create manuals and books for training courses.

    + Represent CP Tech Center at national/international events.

    + Promote pavement technology and organizational interests.

    + Identify research topics and sponsors; negotiate budgets and scopes.

    + Manage research projects, including budgeting and reporting.

    + Provide technical support and strategic input to the CP Tech Center.

    + Engage with industry professionals to address pavement performance issues.

     

    This is a one year, fixed-term with the opportunity for renewal.

     

    Nationwide travel will be required for this position.

     

    Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

    About CP Tech Center at Iowa State University:

    The National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center) is a national hub for concrete pavement research and technology transfer focused on the intersection of academic, industry, and agency needs. The CP Tech Center was founded in 2000 and via research, publications, and tech transfer products has been instrumental in advancing strategic improvements in how concrete pavements are specified, built, and maintained.

     

    Level Guidelines• Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals• Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude• Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action• Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices• Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff• May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team)• May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist• Provides guidance to students
