    Job Description

    The lab technician will prepare paper test specimens of various sizes and shapes using different cutting and punching equipment, and operate test instruments to measure paper properties such as thickness, roughness, porosity, and strength. The technician will record their test results and issue reports using Excel spreadsheets. The technician will work safely at all times, helping to maintain good housekeeping, in a high sample throughput paper testing laboratory. They will work collaboratively with other technicians and scientists on the Analytical Sciences team.

    Responsibilities

    + Prepare paper test specimens of various sizes and shapes using cutting and punching equipment.

    + Operate test instruments to measure paper properties such as thickness, roughness, porosity, and strength.

    + Record test results and issue reports using Excel spreadsheets.

    + Maintain a safe working environment and ensure good housekeeping practices.

    + Collaborate with other technicians and scientists on the Analytical Sciences team.

    Essential Skills

    + Experience in quality control and inspection.

    + Knowledge in chemistry, biology, environmental science, and physical testing.

    + Proficiency in data entry and use of Excel spreadsheets.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Prefer candidates with technician experience in a materials testing lab.

    + An Associate’s degree in a relevant technical field such as Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Chemical Technology is preferred.

    + Analytical chemistry and inorganic chemistry skills are beneficial.

    + Familiarity with laboratory equipment and procedures, including ICP and GCMS, is advantageous.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
