    Job Title: Environmental Permitting SpecialistJob Description

     

    We are seeking an experienced Environmental Permitting Specialist to join our team. This role involves guiding environmental permitting processes and ensuring compliance with regulations for electric transmission projects. The successful candidate will actively participate in project meetings and support the development of Virginia State Corporation Commission Applications. This position is crucial for maintaining a consistent environmental program across all State Corporation Commission applications.

    Responsibilities

    + Actively participate in SCC project team meetings, providing guidance on environmental permitting and programmatic implications of transmission line route alternatives.

    + Support the development of Virginia State Corporation Commission Applications by participating in project meetings, routing discussions, application drafting, and finalization, ensuring consistency of environmental programmatic aspects across applications.

    + Support evidentiary hearings and public meetings.

    + Maintain a consistent program across all SCC applications as the E&S lead assigned to SCC projects.

    + Coordinate with project managers to understand the scope of new and replacement electric transmission projects and apply knowledge of environmental regulations to determine required environmental permits.

    + Independently determine environmental permit applicability for assigned projects with specific knowledge of Section 404/401, Section 7, Section 106, NEPA, Erosion and Sediment Control, and Stormwater Management Programs.

    + Collaborate with external vendors/consultants to prepare, review, and comment on permit applications to align with program expectations.

    + Communicate with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary environmental permits, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

    + Convey environmental compliance requirements from local, state, and federal permits to project and field teams.

    + Provide technical assistance to sites/projects in the construction phase to ensure environmental compliance.

    + Interpret environmental permits and regulations to ensure compliance with dates and project requirements.

    + Independently analyze, identify, and develop compliance strategies crucial for project success.

    Essential Skills

    + Experience supporting Virginia State Corporation Commission processes/procedures in pursuit of obtaining a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN).

    + 5-7 years of linear permitting experience in Virginia and/or North Carolina, with experience in electric transmission preferred.

    + Experience compiling and reviewing environmental permits related to wetlands, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management.

    + Demonstrated ability to effectively manage details, multiple tasks, and hard deadlines.

    + Strong logic and reasoning skills to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternatives, conclusions, or approaches.

    + Ability to embrace collaborative problem-solving.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience overseeing vendors and strong negotiation skills are a plus.

    + Self-starter mentality with the ability to independently manage tasks.

    Work Environment

    The ideal candidate would work in the Richmond, VA office 2-3 days a week. However, for the right candidate, remote work arrangements are available if they live within an hour or two of Richmond and can occasionally meet in person. This position offers the opportunity to join our growing team after a 12-month engagement and support other utilities.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, Virginia.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $90000.00/hr.
