    Job Descriptions:

Drive the People Strategy That Shapes the Future of NECS

NECS is a mission-driven, multi-site healthcare organization dedicated to delivering exceptional care and making a lasting difference for our patients, families, and communities. We are entering a pivotal stage of growth and transformation — and we are seeking a Chief People Officer (CPO) to lead our most important asset: our people.

As the senior-most HR executive, the CPO is a key member of the CEO’s leadership team and a direct advisor to the Board of Directors, responsible for shaping and executing a unified talent, culture, and organizational strategy that enables exceptional patient- outcomes and business performance. This role builds organizational capability, future-proofs the workforce, and orchestrates a culture where people and performance thrive together.

    Your Leadership Impact

+ Architect an enterprise people strategy to ensure talent, culture, and organizational design align with NECS’s mission, growth plans, and operational priorities.

+ Serve as the CEO’s trust adviser on workforce strategy, succession planning, leadership development, and culture transformation.

+ Partner with the Board on the governance of people-related matters and subsequent recommendations.

+ Develop change management capabilities across entities — ensuring cultural alignment and workforce readiness during expansion, transformation, and innovation initiatives.

+ Create a compelling employee value proposition and position NECS as an employer of choice in the healthcare sector.

+ Drive scalability through the adoption of digital HR tools and analytics, leveraging data to inform workforce decisions and measure impact during growth phases.

+ Lead a high performing team, establishing operational efficiency as the organization grows in size and complexity through repeatable routines and processes, reinforcing roles and responsibilities across shared services.

+ Implement workforce analytics and predictive modeling to inform decisions, anticipate trends, and drive measurable results in retention, engagement, and performance.

+ Collaborate with strategic partners, external stakeholders, and joint venture entities to align people strategies, integrate cultures, and facilitate shared goals.

    Why This Role Matters

+ At NECS, people are at the heart of everything we do. As CPO, you will have the platform, resources, and authority to shape the future of our workforce and, by extension, the future of our organization’s impact. This is an opportunity to lead at the highest level, influence strategy across the practice, and leave a lasting legacy on our culture and performance.

NECS is a private medical practice composed of 18 oncologists and hematologists serving the region from 4 separate locations in Maine and New Hampshire. Our mission is to make life better for people with cancer and blood disorders. Kindness, compassion, and respect are part of everything that we do - from our phone operators to our physicians, every person on our team is important, and everyone makes a difference every day. We are proud to be the first Dana Farber Affiliate practice in the country, striving to provide the highest quality care and unmatched, holistic support for every patient, every day.

    Required Experience:

Enterprise Responsibilities - design and implement programs to deliver:

    Talent & Leadership:

+ Develop a strong leadership bench at every level through targeted succession planning, meaningful development experiences, and coaching.

+ Champion leadership development and continuous learning, ensuring employees and leaders are equipped to excel in a dynamic, patient-centered environment.

+ Lead the development and implementation of innovative talent acquisition, onboarding, retention, and succession planning strategies to support rapid scaling.

    + Total Rewards:

+ Oversee competitive, equitable compensation, benefits, and well-being strategies that attract and retain top talent to include executive pay governance that aligns with both practice and strategic partner objectives.

    + HR Function Leadership:

+ Build a best-in-class HR organization with organizational and employee lifecycle capabilities.

+ Oversee alignment and delivery of HR operations across multiple sites and clinical practice locations, ensuring consistency, compliance, and adaptability to local nuances.

+ Culture & Engagement: Foster an inclusive, high-performance culture where purpose drives results and employees feel connected and empowered.

+ Organizational Design: Align structure, roles, processes, and technology to optimize agility, collaboration, and effectiveness.

+ Risk & Compliance: Ensure HR policies and practices meet all legal and ethical standards while enabling flexibility and innovation.

    What You Bring

+ Master’s degree in HR, Business, or related discipline (or equivalent executive-level experience).

+ 15+ years of progressive HR leadership, with at least 5 years as the top HR executive or #2 in a complex, multi-site organization (healthcare or related sector strongly preferred).

+ Relevant experience advising CEOs and Boards on organizational and talent strategy.

+ Strategic thinking with proven execution skills; success leading large-scale cultural change and workforce transformation.

+ Impactful leadership presence, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to influence at every level.

+ Expertise in data-driven decision-making, workforce analytics, and HR technology innovation.
