Description
PCSI is looking for a Carpenter Lead at its Detroit Arsenal Site. We seek a motivated and friendly team member to oversee the in-field work of 7 technicians, subcontractor work, and assigned labor support, ensuring quality service and workmanship. This position is located in Warren, MI. This position will report to the Mechanical Supervisor at the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, MI.
SHIFT: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm Monday – Friday (subject to adjustment based on operational needs)
Rate of pay: $48.35 per hour (union position) with annual increases plus Health & Welfare

What You'll Do as a Carpenter Lead:
+ Possess strong knowledge of exterior building structures, including foundations, walls, roofs, load-bearing elements, building facades, fences, walkways, and interior elements, including framing, drywall, floors, ceilings, doors, and windows.
+ Reviews preventive maintenance (PMO) tasks and job orders in the DTA CMMS daily to assess shop workload, prioritize tasks in line with the site’s work priority plan, and assign work to team members. Monitors progress to prevent delinquency and provides daily updates to the Mechanical Supervisor on any overdue or delayed work.
+ Oversee in the field 7 technicians, subcontractor work, and assigned labor support to ensure quality service and workmanship.
+ Provide leadership and mentorship to General Maintenance Workers, Carpenters, Maintenance Mechanics, and Locksmiths, leveraging expertise in construction methods and facility operations to support their professional growth.
+ Train team members on proper equipment use, safety procedures, PPE compliance, and maintenance best practices to ensure a safe, efficient, and code-compliant work environment within industrial and commercial facilities.
+ Accurately research and identify the correct parts, tools, and supplies needed for maintenance and repair tasks.
+ Supports the Project Work Order (PWO) program by contributing to project estimation, planning, execution, and vendor coordination to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of site initiatives.
+ Ability to assess multiple issues (risk, resources, response) and determine the best course of action before finalizing a decision.
+ Interprets and applies technical documentation—including blueprints, schematics, as-built drawings, and equipment operation manuals—to ensure accurate and efficient task execution.
+ Provide interdepartmental communication and collaboration with other PCSI facility departments.
+ On-call for after-hours emergency calls.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
+ A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a technical certification or associate's degree is preferred.
+ 7+ years of experience in structural and interior building maintenance for multiple types of facilities, buildings, and structures.
+ Proven leadership and coordination skills in a skilled trades environment.
+ Successfully pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background check, and motor vehicle report
+ Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
+ Able to effectively speak, read, and write the English language
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and equipment required to support maintenance and repair tasks
+ Proficiency in computer literacy and software applications is desired.
+ Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills
Working Condition
+ Must be able to pass a criminal and drug screening, and must be able to obtain/maintain a security clearance, including a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI)
+ Must be able to pass a driving screening, possess a valid Michigan driver’s license, and maintain a good driving record
+ Must be able to work outside in inclement weather as needed and be exposed to various dirt, debris, and odors
+ Must be able to work any time or day of the week, including weekends and holidays
+ Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, lift, move, climb, and carry supplies up to 50 lbs.
