    COMMUNITY LIVING SPECIALIST

    DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY AND SUPPORT SERVICES

    SENIORS DIVISION

    Number of Positions: 1

     

    (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

     

    Starting Annual Salary:** **$72,000

     

    This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City’s collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

    The Senior Services Division provides direct services through staff located at six Regional Senior Centers. Additionally, the Senior Services Division partners with service providers who specialize in meeting the needs of aging adults by providing meals, caregiver support services, case management and benefit counseling. The Senior Services Division has an annual budget of $30 million. A sizeable portion of this funding is granted to community partners through a competitive grant making process. The Senior Services Division funds over 15 programs serving over 100,000 individuals across 30 delegate agencies impacting every Chicago neighborhood.

     

    Position will be responsible for providing supervisor support to the I&A/Senior Centers Unit. This includes on-site assistance at Central I&A and the DFSS Regional Seniors on a floating basis to address operational need.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    + Manage resource development initiatives and lead training initiatives for the unit.

    + Provides technical assistance and support to staff and program partners for DFSS-I&A/Senior Centers and other assigned programs and services

    + Convenes, coordinates, and facilitates meetings and other communications with contracted agencies and other partners, as needed to resolve operational issues, share best practices, and assure resource information is up-to-date

    + Provides back-up on-site Supervision at DFSS Regional Centers and/or Central I&A based upon operational need

    + Assists with Citywide Special Events and Activities

    + Performs other duties and fulfills additional responsibilities

    **Hours:** 9:00AM – 5:00PM

    THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

    Qualifications:

    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree or higher in Gerontology, Psychology, Social Services, Public Health or a directly related field, plus one year of work experience in the planning, implementation, and administration of social service programs; or a Bachelor's degree in the above listed fields and two years of work experience in the planning, implementation, and administration of social service programs
