    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    **EchoStar** has an exciting opportunity for a **Sales Engineer - Aviation** in our **Hughes Network Systems** division. This position will drive the end-to-end bid process for complex projects, ensuring our bids are compelling, competitive, and aligned with customer needs.

     

    The ideal candidate will play a critical role in driving the technical and business solutions for proposals. Candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, engineering, product management, and marketing, to craft compelling and innovative solutions that meet client needs and align with our strategic objectives. This position will be located at our headquarters in **Germantown, MD** .

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Proposal Strategy and Development: Lead the technical and solution architecture aspects of complex proposal submissions, ensuring alignment with customer requirements, business goals, and company offerings; validate the technical solution with internal SMEs; lead the creation, review, and submission of high-quality, customer-focused proposals within strict deadlines

    + Competitive Intelligence: Articulate and understand the solution differentiators and key advantages and link them to key airline goals and objectives; articulate what technical offer competitors may offer and optimize our solution to be cost and value-competitive

    + Solution Design: Collaborate with sales, product, and engineering teams to develop customized, end-to-end solutions that address customer pain points and deliver value; optimize unnecessary costs where possible to maximize or cost efficiency and our pricing power and challenge. Manage the end-to-end bid process to ensure that accurate, comprehensive bids are presented and approved internally

    + RFP Response: Analyze and respond to Request for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and other solicitation documents, ensuring that all technical aspects are addressed with clear and concise solutions; work with sales and bid manager to articulate win themes and adapt RFP responses to emphasize and provide credibility to our win themes; optimize our compliance matrix and SLAs to defend our positioning and anticipate competitors’ response while balancing our technical risk

    + Customer Advocacy: Be an advocate for our airline customers, driving solutions that enable them to succeed and simultaneously optimize our profitability; engage with clients during the proposal process to clarify requirements, provide insights, and ensure that the proposed solution meets both technical and business objectives

    + Bid Management: Coordinate the internal review and approval processes for proposals, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards

    + Technical Writing: Create high-quality technical content, including solution architecture descriptions, diagrams, system designs, and supporting documentation

    + Solution Validation: Ensure the proposed solutions are feasible, scalable, and supportable, considering all operational, financial, and compliance factors

    + Risk Management: Identify potential risks in proposed solutions and work with the team to mitigate them

    + Competitive Analysis: Work with product, sales and marketing teams to conduct market and competitor analysis and inform bid positioning and pricing strategies

    + Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development and enhancement of proposal templates, best practices, and other tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposal process; create standard cost books and bid histories to provide key pricing insights; conduct debriefs to analyze bid outcomes, identify lessons learned, and share insights to inform future opportunities; continuously refine and improve the bid management process, tools, and templates to enhance efficiency and effectiveness

     

    Skills, Experience and Requirements

    Education and Experience:

    + Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering or related field with an aviation background.

    + 5 years of experience in technical solution design, pre-sales engineering, or proposal management within IT, telecommunications, government contracting, etc.

    Skills and Qualifications:

    + Strong understanding of cloud computing, enterprise software, network infrastructure, security solutions

    + Proven ability to develop clear, concise, and compelling proposal content, including technical write-ups, system architecture, and other deliverables; ability to craft compelling narratives and strategies that differentiate our solutions in a competitive landscape; ameticulous approach to document preparation and review, ensuring accuracy and professionalism

    + Ability to manage multiple proposals simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and quality standards are maintained

    + Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

    + Strong leadership to lead cross-functional teams and build rapport with stakeholders at all levels

    + Sharp analytical skills to evaluate market trends, customer requirements, and competitive positioning

    + Experience with proposal management tools (e.g., Salesforce) and architecture/design software e.g., Visio

    + Strong analytical mindset with the ability to think strategically and solve complex problems

    + Ability to work independently and take ownership of the proposal process

    + Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality outputs

    + Creative problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering value to customers

    + Adaptable and able to navigate dynamic and evolving business environment

     

    Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.

    Salary Ranges

     

    Compensation: $113,500.00/Year - $151,000.00/Year

    The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
