Shenandoah University’s Department of Career and Professional Development is accepting applications for a Work-Based Learning Coordinator. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.
The Work-Based Learning Coordinator plays a critical role in advancing Shenandoah University’s commitment to student career readiness by developing, managing, and promoting high-quality internship and work-based learning opportunities. Reporting to the Director of Career and Professional Development, the Coordinator builds and maintains strong partnerships with employers, faculty, staff, students, and alumni to ensure students gain meaningful experiential learning experiences that prepare them for professional success.
The Work-Based Learning Coordinator provides individualized advising to students, oversees the placement and tracking of internship opportunities, and coordinates assessment of the student and employer experience. This role works collaboratively across all academic schools to align opportunities with academic requirements and career pathways.
Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Collaborate with the Director of Career and Professional Development to maintain updated resources and databases of internship and work-based learning opportunities, ensuring accessibility for students and faculty.
+ Assist the Director in fostering relationships with employers with the goal of creating recurring internship opportunities for students
+ Partner with the CPD Events Coordinator to design and implement student programming related to internships and work-based learning, including workshops on internship search strategies, professional preparation, and maximizing the experiential learning process.
+ Partner with the Career and Professional Development Marketing Coordinator to create opportunities for students to articulate and showcase the value of their internship experiences.
+ Engage with faculty across all academic disciplines to understand course-specific internship requirements and develop resources to prepare students accordingly.
+ Share work-based learning opportunities with faculty and staff, support the placement of students, track participation, and maintain accurate records of internship sites and student outcomes.
+ Conduct ongoing assessments of student and employer experiences through surveys, interviews, and focus groups to ensure continuous improvement of internship programs. This includes collaborating with the Associate Director for data collection and reporting.
+ Provide individualized career advising to students, offering guidance on career exploration, internship search strategies, and preparation for work-based learning opportunities.
+ Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission, goals, and strategic priorities of the Division of Student Affairs and Shenandoah University.
+ Engage with employers who approach the university about internship/work-based learning opportunities
+ Assist the Director in fostering relationships with employers with the goal of creating internship recurring opportunities for students
+ Collaborate with the Associate Director for data collection and reporting
Required Skills

+ A student-centered, approachable, and service-oriented mindset when engaging with students, families, faculty, and staff.
+ Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard office technologies; prior experience with Handshake preferred.
+ Previous experience in workforce development preferred.
+ Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during the academic year, as required.
Required Experience
Education:
+ Required: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communication, Business or related field
