Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Staff Systems Engineer to support the Systems Engineering & Integration Team (SE&IT) program. Position Overview:
The selected Sr. Staff Systems Engineer responsibilities will include the support of the SE&IT program as a technical lead on the (IDT) Integrated Discrimination Team. The selected individual will serve as the SE&I Deputy Chief Engineer specializing in Countermeasure Mitigation and Discrimination (CM&D), providing technical oversight and integration of SE&I Team electromagnetic warfare (EW) and discrimination related products, reporting to the SE&I Team Chief Engineer. SE&I Team's CM&D portfolio consists of system architecture concept development, evaluation, and maturation supporting System-level discrimination as well as modeling, simulation, and analysis efforts to assess the impact of EW on System performance and developing mitigation concepts for evaluation.
Essential Functions:
+ Participate in MDA design reviews, test reviews, and technical interchange meetings to ensure Agency-wide understanding of CM&D concepts and designs remain consistent and meet performance needs for the Missile Defense System.
+ Engage with SE&I Team Industry partners to bring forward technologies and concepts under IR&D to MDA's attention to ensure alignment between MDA capability pipeline development and Industry strategic investments.
+ Support the planning and execution of CM&D-related SE&I Team tasks to ensure first time quality, timely delivery of products, and consistency across all SE&I Team portfolios, participating in CM&D-related project sprints, standups, and retrospective reviews.
+ Ensure that System Design products are compatible with future inclusion of CM&D concepts in the MDS baseline, as well as maintaining knowledge of the capability gaps as defined in the MDA Capability Gap Tracker.
+ The position is in Huntsville, AL and work is performed on a customer site at the Boeing Jetplex facility.

Basic Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 14 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 12 years of related experience, or 10 years of related experience with a PhD.
+ Technical background in missile defense radar design, operations, and signal processing, specifically in target discrimination.
+ Must understand Missile Defense System sensors, command and control, and effector systems, as well as adversary countermeasures, including their design, and employment.
+ Must possess skills in the use of modeling and simulation of discrimination phenomenology, techniques, processing, and decision logic.
+ Ability to generate data, analyze results, and provide insights to system or concept performance. Acceptable languages are MATLAB or Python, but Java and C/C++ are acceptable as well.
+ Must have experience in conducting system concept trade studies, requirements analysis, feasibility analysis, system performance measures of effective analysis, battlespace analysis, and timing analysis.
+ Must possess good communication skills and demonstrated experience leading a team of talented engineers to perform highly technical work, and communicating significant results to senior management, executives, and government stakeholders.
+ Ability and willingness to work on a customer site.
+ Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
+ Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Top Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) discrimination background is desirable, both in off-board and on-board discrimination senses.
+ Element-level experience with Analysis, Assessment, or Verification and familiarity with MDS Performance Tier 1 Metrics (PES, DA, LAD, RSC, etc).
+ Systems engineering experience with large, complex systems. Experience with modeling and simulation of exoatmospheric and endoatmospheric target phenomenology (e.g. Optical Signatures Code, TASAT, DELTAS, XPATCH, etc.), atmospheric effects (e.g. MODTRAN, HITRAN, etc.), long range EO/IR sensors, RF/Radar sensors, and directed energy is highly desired.
+ Experience with discrimination analysis and fusion (e.g. Project Hercules, relevant National Laboratory activities, etc.) is also highly desired.
+ Systems engineering experience with large, complex systems.
Primary Level Salary Range: $179,600.00 - $269,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
