    Hiring Rate: $34.05 - $44.91/hour

     

    Non-Exempt, Full Time, Full Benefits

    ROAD & BRIDGE ASSISTANT FOREMAN – OAK CREEK SHOP

    SUMMARY:

    Under direction, leads and participates in the work of an assigned group of employees working on road, bridge, and other right-of-way construction and maintenance projects including the operation of light and heavy vehicles and equipment; assists in scheduling, assigning, and directing staff; directs and reviews the work assigned to crews to assure that construction standards are met; evaluates project conditions and recommends the level of service, maintenance, and repairs needed; coordinates the scheduling of mechanical maintenance, and repair work on light and heavy equipment; and performs other related duties as assigned.

    JOB DUTIES:

    The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific duties does not prevent the assignment of work that is appropriately related to this class.

     

    • Leads and participates in the work of an assigned group of employees working on road, bridge, and other right-of-way construction and maintenance projects including the operation of light and heavy vehicles and equipment; assists in scheduling, assigning, and directing staff; directs and reviews the work assigned to crews to assure that construction standards are met.

    • Evaluates project conditions and recommends the level of service, maintenance, and repairs needed; assesses equipment capabilities and determines which equipment is best suited for a particular job; schedules and coordinates the equipment, materials, and supplies needed to complete the work; directs and monitors the work in accordance with the approved budget; advises the project foreman of any deviations in a timely manner.

    • Leads and coordinates assigned winter operations, including snow plowing and sanding of roads; leads seasonal maintenance crews for asphalt patching, dust suppression, sweeping, mowing of rights of way, crack sealing, tree trimming, and/or other maintenance tasks; coordinates the personnel and resources necessary to complete assigned operations.

    • Coordinates with mechanics assigned to repair equipment; reviews equipment maintenance records and schedules timely servicing of equipment; identifies back up options when equipment is out of service.

    • Responds to public inquiries regarding assigned work projects; responds promptly to citizen complaints or questions and takes appropriate action.

    • Operates heavy equipment to support county infrastructure, construction projects and activities; reads and follows grade stakes and engineering plans and specifications; operates snowplow trucks and other equipment during the winter to clear roads and maintain road safety.

    • Monitors equipment function and identifies mechanical or operational problems; identifies unsafe conditions on equipment, infrastructure, and rights-of-way and notifies the foreman appropriately.

    • Provides training and assistance to employees.

    • Use a computer to maintain files and records.

    • May perform general labor duties as well as semi-skilled welding, cutting, and metal fabrication.

    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Experience

    Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Education:

    Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience:

    Two years of progressively responsible public works-related construction experience, that included operating heavy road and maintenance equipment.

    Substitution:

    Vocational training/education may substitute for the above-required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

    A valid Colorado Class A commercial driver’s license, with air brake endorsement and a safe driving record is required at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
