    Job Summary

Graduate Research Assistants (GRAs) are graduate students who conduct original, professional-level research under faculty supervision as part of their academic training. Their duties support both the faculty’s research goals and the student’s degree requirements, including tasks such as data analysis, literature reviews, and scholarly inquiry. GRAs work under the direction of faculty or administration and are evaluated at least annually. They are expected to follow all academic and research policies set by the College of Nursing.

    Essential Functions

TheGRA will support an interpretive phenomenological qualitative study exploring the lived experiences of obese Hispanic women residing in Alabama. The study focuses on cultural, personal, and motivational factors influencing weight loss. Because many participants prefer communication in Spanish, **bilingual fluency is essential** to support culturally responsive engagement and accurate data collection. In addition to assisting with this qualitative research project—including participant recruitment, interviews, transcription, and data analysis—theGRA will contribute to literature reviews and other scholarly projects aligned with this area of research.

+ Contribute to a program of research under supervision of a faculty member.

+ Attend project meetings and contribute to discussions and planning.

+ Conduct literature reviews and summarize findings for faculty use.

+ Recruit and/or interview research participants in Spanish or English, maintaining confidentiality and accurate records.

+ Summarize interviews and provide ready access to experiential data for faculty researchers.

+ Assist with coding and analyzing qualitative data using NVivo software.

+ Summarize findings and prepare progress reports.

+ Prepare materials needed for research seminars and conferences.

+ Assist faculty researchers in writing manuscripts to disseminate research results.
