Summary ORGANIZATION LOCATION: Great Plains Youth Regional Treatment Center. Position is located in Wakpala, SD. Supervised through the Supervisory Social Services Assistant. The purpose of the position is to help adolescent patients develop positive daily living habits and to support the professional staff in delivering quality inpatient care for chemical dependency. Responsibilities Creates lesson plans, curricula, and other cultural education groups for the residents through the use of videos, library books, and other types of resource materials relating to various Northern Plains Tribes. Assists with and maintains the daily schedule, including but not limited to: community activities, daily meditations, daily goal setting, support group meetings and all related activities, and assists residents with their discharge and aftercare planning. Manages the security of the residents through random bed checks and systematically records those bed checks. Assists with Control Station duties that include: answering the telephone, providing interior and exterior security checks, routine bed checks, bathroom and shower monitoring, and monitoring surveillance cameras, fire and control panels. Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff in such fields as personnel (private or government), employment guidance in a vocational or academic institution, social service, or manpower development. Aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private, public welfare, government program, or community organizations, or in voluntary activities. Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs. (The supplementary experience may have been gained, for example, in part-time or summer employment, in volunteer social welfare or recreation programs, or in community organizations.) Additional Information Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized.
