    Summary OUR MISSION: To fulfill President Lincoln's promise to care for those who have served in our nation's military and for their families, caregivers, and survivors. Responsibilities This position is located in the Clement J. Zablocki Medical Center, Milwaukee, a complexity level 1A facility. The incumbent functions as a Maintenance Mechanic Leader within the Preventative Maintenance and Repair (PM&R) Section, Facilities Management Division, accomplishing trades and labor work. The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the Preventative Maintenance and Repair (PM&R) Supervisor. Incumbent will assume limited acting supervisory responsibilities during those periods when the supervisor of the team is not present for duty, i.e. on annual leave, sick leave, or training. Leader Duties: Maintain & demonstrate a working knowledge of procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives, sufficient to lead a multi-trade team consisting of: 1-Electrician, WG-2805-10 2-Industrial Equipment Mechanic, WG-5252-10 2-Pipefitters, WG-4210-10 1-Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, WG-5306-10 2-Carpenters, WG-4607-9 1-Painter, WG-4102-9 1-Electrician Helper, WG-2805-5 Industrial Equipment Mechanic Duties: Work at this level involves repairs, adjusts, modifies, and installs new or existing mechanical equipment. Maintains and repairs a wide variety of mechanical equipment, such as supply conveyors, dietetic equipment, gear reducers, electric motors, pneumatic tube systems, pumps, hydraulic equipment, hospital beds, operating room tables, and other operating room equipment, air handling systems, V-belts and repairs or replaces bearings on all types of equipment as needed. Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Duties: Work at this level involves installing, recognizing the cause of faulty equipment and making repairs on large systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulating. The systems that the incumbent installs and repairs are used to condition the air for different kinds of structures such as warehouses, hospitals, and large office buildings and complexes including those with areas that have special requirements such as communication centers, electronic data processing centers, operating rooms, laboratories, clean rooms, and other areas with sensitive equipment. The systems use a variety of methods of air conditioning such as mechanical compression, vapor compression, absorption, steam jet or air cycle. Electrician Duties: Monitors and schedules the preventative maintenance inspections for EBUs, BBUs, and other equipment. Oversees lighting replacement and other electrical related work by staff. Pipefitter Duties: Monitors and schedules backflow preventer testing and repairs, eye wash station weekly inspections and PMs and oversees plumbing installation and repairs to various systems. Carpenter and Painter Duties: Monitors and schedules work orders and construction projects performed by staff. *Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 12 PM-8:30 PM, and may be required to be present to provide off-hours support for utility outages, maintenance and projects support, etc. and operational requirements may necessitate changes, etc. *Eligible for Alternate Work Schedule (AWS) with (8) 9 hour days and (1) 8 hour day and (1) Wednesday off per pay period. *Incumbent must obtain and maintain Level 2 Contracting Officer Representative (COR) Certification required to manage service contracts in their shop that they are responsible for. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort: Work involves strenuous, heavy physical effort and frequent reaching, bending, stooping and turning. Equipment worked on is large and must be moved in and out of specific locations. Frequently sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 75 pounds and occasionally heavier. Ladders scaffolds and platforms may be used when working systems. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside, and outside in all types of weather. Incumbent may work in awkward and cramped positions and may be exposed to the danger of the job and equipment. Personal protective equipment, such as but not limited to: earplugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat and safety shoes, etc., may be required.
