Job Summary
We are looking for a dynamic, motivated, and creative Marketing Specialist to contribute to the development of marketing and communications for the University of Utah Housing & Dining Programs ( HDP ) department.
This specialist role involves supervising student ambassadors, designing, coordinating, and executing writing, design, and project management tasks, and ensuring proper branding of products, all while utilizing traditional and digital publishing technologies to produce diverse communication materials.
This position will be part of the HDP marketing and communications unit, reporting directly to the Marketing and Assessment Manager. The team is comprised of an associate director, a manager, and specialists who supervise a group of student interns. This is a hybrid role that requires in-person meetings and maintaining a regular physical presence at the department. The ideal candidate is a self-directed professional who can work comfortably in a fast-paced environment and be accountable for results.
Responsibilities
1. Develop and execution of communications plans based on HDP application cycles, assessment projects, and marketing priorities (e.g., move-in campaign, Upper Division and First-Year housing application, and the Resident Satisfaction Survey) by utilizing traditional and electronic publishing technologies.
2. Collaborating with key partners such as the Office of Admissions, Orientation, and Alumni, to coordinate housing tours with student ambassadors (scheduling and staffing).
3. Oversee the content creation for social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok). Working with student ambassadors and campus partners, this specialist position manages a group of 5/6 students who develop content, including design, video, and photography, as regular content and for specific campaigns.
4. Responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of marketing/communication tactics and adjusting communication plans as necessary.
5. Research, development, and proofreading of communications and monitoring media.
6. Develops and adheres to project timelines, ensuring that deliverables (digital and distributed material) are accurate and timely.
7. Support the marketing unit by contributing to cross-functional efforts, including internal and external events, move-in, presentations for new students, and in-state and out-of-state trips during the recruitment season.
8. May perform other related technical duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree English, Journalism, Communications, or related field plus 3 years of related experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of computer software; project management and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting.
Some areas may require additional experience with specific computer systems and may require skills in interviewing, ad copy writing, editing, photography, web writing, graphic design, audio & video production, and oral presentation.
Master’s degree in a related field may be preferred.

+ Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
+ Proficient user of Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, Canva, and email marketing platforms
+ Experience preparing reports and graphic illustrations of findings using data visualization strategies and tools.
+ Experience creating slide decks and presenting information to individuals and groups.
+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
+ Familiarity with a variety of computer software; project management experience, and ability to work both individually and in a team setting.
