Responsibilities:
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Retail Store Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a retail store, ensuring excellent customer service, driving sales, managing staff, and maintaining inventory. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to ensure the store meets its financial and operational goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Store Operations & Customer Experience
+ Manage daily operations of the museum store, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service.
+ Be consistently present on the sales floor to actively engage with customers and model exceptional service.
+ Handle customer complaints and resolve issues promptly.
+ Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked store environment.
+ Implement company policies and procedures to ensure smooth operations.
+ Coordinate promotional campaigns and in-store events.
+ Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Sales Strategy & Merchandising
+ Develop and implement sales strategies, programs, and tactics to meet or exceed revenue goals.
+ Work with Marketing and utilize Museum Store social media platforms to promote and drive sales.
+ Maintain visual merchandising and store displays to enhance visitor engagement.
+ Oversee visual presentation and ensure alignment with current exhibitions and museum branding.
+ Monitor and achieve sales targets, KPIs, and profitability goals.
Product Buying & Inventory Management
+ Select, purchase, and manage inventory with a focus on products that reflect the museum’s mission, exhibitions, and collections.
+ Source unique and locally made items, including books, gifts, educational materials, and exhibition-related products.
+ Maintain optimal inventory levels and manage stock replenishment.
+ Track product performance and adjust buying strategies accordingly.
+ Collaborate with curatorial, education, and marketing teams to create store tie-ins with exhibitions, events, and programs.
+ Consistently engage with museum department heads to ensure relevant and timely merchandise is being purchased.
Staff Leadership & Development
+ Lead and manage store staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
+ Provide real-time coaching and performance feedback to optimize sales and service.
+ Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment focused on customer satisfaction and sales through service.
+ Support and motivate staff through hands-on training and shift engagement.
+ Track team performance, celebrate wins, and recognize top performers.
Financial Oversight & Reporting
+ Prepare and manage the store budget; monitor sales performance and profitability.
+ Manage pricing, markdowns, and promotions to optimize revenue.
+ Develop and utilize metrics to assist in making strategic operational decisions.
+ Prepare sales reports and analyze performance metrics.
E-Commerce & Stock Control –
+ Maintain accurate inventory records and implement efficient stock control systems.
+ Oversee shipping, receiving, and e-commerce operations.
+ Delegate administrative tasks to maximize time spent with customers and staff.
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
+ 2 Years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience Required
+ Previous Supervisory Experience Preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Must be able to work during the weekends and evenings for onsite events Required
