Safety and Health Expert (Muscatine, Iowa)
The Safety and Health Expert position will guide Safety, Health, and Security programs and culture at the Muscatine site, ensuring quality and alignment with applicable procedures, policies, and legislation. This highly collaborative position will work closely with safety, health, and security representatives and interact with personnel at all levels of the organization to ensure continuous development and achievement of site and company safety and health goals.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Ensure compliance with all governing regulations and global, regional, and local directives regarding Safety, Process Safety, Occupational Health, Fire Prevention, and Security, including service contractors and third-party tenants.
+ Analyze and monitor relevant KPIs, develop proposals to address opportunities, and implement safe technical solutions that enable the business.
+ Guide development and maintenance of all applicable program-related procedures by interpreting and evaluating government regulations, amendments, and current interpretations as they might apply to the site.
+ Provide leadership to the Safety, Process Safety, Occupational Health, Fire Prevention, and Security squad to ensure consistent application of requirements across the site and continual improvement of team members.
+ Optimize the performance and development of Safety & Health team members through mentoring, coaching, training, and recognition.
+ Set directions for site Security contractor to evaluate and manage strategic needs of Muscatine Site.
+ Responsible for RMP classification decisions and ensuring timely notification to the appropriate external organizations.
+ Oversee and participate in the execution of voluntary compliance programs, including VPP (Voluntary Protection Program), RC 14001 (ISO 14001 and Reasonable Care Management System), and RMP (Risk Management Program).
+ Develop focused prevention programs for events (e.g., spills) and injuries through data analysis.
+ Facilitate and provide guidance in complex investigations of occupational safety incidents through root cause analysis and ensure that corrective actions identified are implemented.
+ Interact with other key Bayer sites and regional and global SSHE groups to share best practices and influence the development of programs, policies, and procedures.
+ Monitor the Site Safety, Security, and Fire Prevention cost centers budget and expenses.
+ Participation in incident response and site emergency response role(s).
+ Safety and Health subject matter expert for the Muscatine Site

Required Qualifications:
+ A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a relevant technical field.
+ Demonstrated risk management mindset.
+ Proven expertise of federal, state, and local compliance standards that impact site safety and health.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
+ Strong outcome/solution orientation; ability to focus on relevant topics which drive value.
+ Demonstrated ability to influence, network, collaborate, and lead cross functionally and with key stakeholders.
+ Demonstrated ability to build a culture of empowerment.
+ The ability to interface effectively with regulatory agencies is vital for success in this role.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience in the chemical or petrochemical industry.
+ Experience with Process Hazard Analysis techniques, particularly HAZOP, FMEA and What-If studies.
+ Experience leading or overseeing proactive programs like VPP, RC 14001, or RMP.
+ OSHA Special Government Employee (SGE).
+ ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent accreditation or commit to acquiring within two (2) years

Employees can expect to be paid an annual salary range of $113,355.20 - $170,032.80. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. If selected for this role, the offer may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
