    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

     

    + Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met.

    + Assist in development of ship Technical Specifications and proposal drawings. Ensure shipyard standards and US regulations are being applied, make suggestions for cost savings, ease of production, and review for technical accuracy.

    + Manage overall design for propulsion, thrusters, and steering related systems and areas. Ensure drawings are published and approved on time to support project schedule. Work with ship owner, design partners, and regulatory authorities to resolve design issues.

    + Create, check, and/or review Purchase Technical Specifications for assigned equipment and systems. Provide feedback to design partner if applicable or revise the document as applicable.

    + Review and approve basic and detail design drawings such as machinery arrangements, shafting arrangements, calculations, and analysis reports for accuracy against contract specifications, rules and regulations, and general check for mistakes and consistency. Identify potential installation or operational issues. Provide feedback to design partner for revision.

    + Make revisions to the above mentioned documents after they have reached the working stage.

    + Review maker (vendor) furnished drawings and manuals. Check for accuracy against specifications, rules and regulations, missing/inaccurate scope of supply or information, potential installation or operational issues. Provide feedback to the maker for revision.

    + Create and maintain material lists for vendor supplied equipment.

    + Interface with Owner, Class, and other competent authorities to resolve technical issues.

    + Support the production design engineering staff by providing mentorship and answering design related questions.

    + Develop and refine build methods by determining installation sequences, alignment steps, and required checks; implement provide planning and production feedback to optimize the ship construction process, identify key inspection points, and collaborate cross-functionally with Planning, Production, and Production Engineering teams.

    + Assist with creation of detailed Installation and Alignment Procedures including making drawings and performing calculations for machinery alignment.

    + Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for critical equipment. Make FAT report. Assist with resolution of any punch list items.

    + Create and maintain Dock Trial and Sea Trial test procedures.

    + Participate in dock testing and possibly sea trials if needed due to schedule or availability. Take alignment and jack-up measurements and prepare alignment reports.

    + Assist with production field support requests. Provide technical support, guidance, and mentorship to Production Engineers. For more complex issues go onboard to perform data collection and troubleshooting as necessary. Interface with production supervisors or workers to understand the problem. Work with other engineers, production, equipment vendors, and outside design partners to implement a solution.

    + Maintain working knowledge and monitor development of classification, regulatory rules and requirements, and market conditions pertaining to main engines, propulsion, and steering equipment.

    + Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    EDUCATION AND EXPEREIENCE

    + Bachelor's Degree or higher as Mechanical Engineer, Marine Engineer, or Naval Architect.

    + Minimum 5 years’ experience in shipbuilding, specifically with propulsion equipment, thrusters, and propulsion shaft alignment procedures.

    + Proficiency with MS Office and basic CAD systems such as AutoCAD is required.

    + Knowledge/experience concerning basic and detail ship design.

    + Experience with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Steel Vessel Rules, IMO Regulations, and US Coast Guard Requirements is a plus.

    + Experience with 3D modeling software, experience with Tribon or Aveva Marine is a plus.

    + Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle is a plus.

    + International experience or familiarity with European and/or Asian Shipbuilding Standards is a plus.

    POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    This is an on-site, full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard schedule is 9-hour days Monday through Thursday and 4 hours on Friday. Flexible start times are available. The majority of work will be performed in the Philly Shipyard office. Occasional field work in the shipyard’s fabrication shops, dry docks, warehouses, and onboard the vessel will be required. May be required to work after hours and from home to support meetings with other time zones. Occasional (about 5%) international and domestic travel may be required.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Since the job functions require an individual to enter production areas, they should have a range of motion sufficient to perform occasional bending, stooping, climbing, standing, etc. Employment in this position is contingent upon passing the medical examination.
