    We are seeking a Chemical or Materials Engineering Intern, primarily responsible for updating specifications for components used in energetic devices, and providing technical support within the company. The intern could be involved in laboratory material analyses and characterization that include, but are not limited to, failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, and definition and requirement specifications. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. This role is onsite, in Fairfield, CA. This role may be eligible for relocation.

    What **You** Will Do:

    + You will identify, develop, and/or update appropriate technical specifications to apply to materials and chemicals used in manufacturing processes.

    + You will perform material analyses that include, but are not limited to, failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, and definition and requirement specifications.

    + You will create/modify manufacturing documents and drawings needed to support internal and contractual requirements.

    + You will participate in brainstorming efforts for part design and/or new specification conditions and modify the design, tooling or procedures as required to provide reliable cost effective solutions.

    + You will comply with all requirements for safety, quality, and secure handling of technical information and you will support continuous improvement activities to improve development project execution.

    What **You** Will Learn:

    + You will learn training and skill development to support RRCA and process improvement activities.

    + You will learn to apply knowledge learned through academics to validate hardware and/or process conforms to related specification requirements.

    + You will learn to interpret aerospace material drawings and specifications.

    + You will be trained to operate and interpret results from state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation.

    Qualifications **You** Must Have:

    + Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

    + U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62 .

    + Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) access.

    Qualifications We Prefer:

    + Experience with analytical method or, strong computer skills and ability to learn new analysis/modeling software.

    + Must be willing to work around explosives.

    + Proficient at prioritizing and managing work load, as well as have a very strong decision making and administrative abilities.

    + Ability to multi task between multiple projects and work in a fast paced environment.

    The salary range for this role is 42,000 USD - 88,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.

     

    RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

     

    Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

     

    Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

     

    This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
