Job Summary
The Lab Lead supports the daily operations of one or more divisions of the clinical laboratory by performing and overseeing testing activities, maintaining quality and compliance standards, and serving as a resource for laboratory personnel. This role ensures timely and accurate diagnostic results, supports interdepartmental communication, and collaborates with laboratory leadership on operational effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Functions
+ Performs routine and complex laboratory tests in assigned areas with 99% accuracy, ensuring timely results for high-priority departments such as ER, OR, and Cath Lab.
+ Conducts and documents quality control procedures, identifies issues, and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
+ Assists the Technical Supervisor and Director with interdepartmental communications and laboratory functions, acting as a lead resource for laboratory staff.
+ Calibrates and verifies new reagents and testing kits prior to use, maintaining accurate records in accordance with regulatory standards.
+ Performs preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment to ensure functionality and minimize downtime.
+ Maintains a clean, organized, and well-stocked work area and assists in inventory assessments and ordering of supplies with cost-effectiveness in mind.
+ Reviews and monitors LIS data entry for accuracy, resolves discrepancies, and ensures timely specimen processing.
+ Trains and mentors new staff and educates team members on new procedures, equipment, and regulatory updates.
+ Monitors test turnaround times and ensures adherence to laboratory protocols and performance expectations.
+ Participates in proficiency testing across qualified disciplines and supports quality assurance initiatives.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
+ Associate Degree in Medical Technology or Physical, Chemical, or Biological sciences required
+ 2-4 years of clinical laboratory experience required
+ Prior lead or supervisory experience in a laboratory setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Knowledge of laboratory testing principles, instrumentation, and regulatory requirements.
+ Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and implement corrective actions independently.
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills to lead, train, and collaborate with team members.
+ High attention to detail and accuracy in testing, documentation, and data entry.
+ Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and interfaced equipment.
Licenses and Certifications
+ MLT - Medical Lab Technician obtained by ASCP, AMT, or equivalent required
+ State licensure as applicable required
