    **Summary** :

     

    This position will work closely with the Vice President, Philanthropy and the Chief Philanthropy Officer/President and appointed team members to implement the Foundation’s strategic plan and key opportunities. The Assistant Vice President, Philanthropy will lead, organize, direct, and manage faculty engagement, frontline fundraising processes and procedures and in partnership with prospect development, help streamline and manage $100K+ prospect strategy meetings and discussions with gift officers across all program areas.

     

    **Responsibilities** :

    • Strategic Planning & Goal Setting: Define clear, ambitious goals aligned with organizational priorities. Guide the team to develop annual work plans with measurable KPIs and success metrics.

    • Performance Management: Monitor progress through quarterly reviews, leveraging analytics to assess impact and inform strategy. Provide timely feedback and support continuous improvement.

    • Motivation & Communication: Foster a collaborative and purpose-driven environment through transparent communication, recognition, and shared accountability.

    • Revenue Growth & Goal Achievement: Support development officers in achieving and exceeding financial targets by removing barriers, offering strategic guidance, and optimizing donor strategies.

    •Leading People: Leads people toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals.     • Digital Program Enhancement: Lead the modernization of philanthropic operations by integrating digital platforms, CRM systems, and data analytics to improve annual giving donor stewardship, campaign effectiveness, and team efficiency. Promote digital fluency across the Foundation and champion innovation in engagement strategies.

    • Manage a team of five full-time professionals while working cross-functionally with multiple teams and colleagues across the Foundation to advance strategic initiatives. This role carries philanthropic accountability aligned with the team’s overarching fundraising goal of $155 million, with performance measured through data-driven metrics and outcomes.

    • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts in support of UNC Health and UNC School of Medicine priorities. The metric-driven financial targets assigned to this position are commensurate with the overarching team goal. Expected to build, replenish and carry a portfolio 100 principal and major gift donors and prospects and will be required to meet the standard visit and proposal metrics as set forth by the UNC Health Foundation.

    • Serve as a trusted collaborator to Associate Vice Presidents and key institutional leaders across UNC Hospitals and UNC Faculty Physicians, including Clinical Department Chairs. Facilitate alignment between philanthropic strategies and clinical priorities, ensuring fundraising initiatives are responsive to departmental needs and positioned to advance the missions of UNC Health and the UNC School of Medicine. Collaborate with the Executive Directors of Advancing Health, Cancer, Children’s and the other Assistant Vice Presidents to create and implement a faculty engagement program. Create clear, consistent, defined fundraising processes and procedures for all frontline fundraisers.

    • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.

    Licensure/Certification Requirements:

    Professional Experience Requirements:

    • Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of development related experience, with at least seven (7) years of management experience. Experience in an academic medical center, university or large college setting is preferred. A successful track record in soliciting and closing principal, major, deferred and annual gifts as well as comprehensive campaign experience are required.

    Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentational skills required. Superior written and verbal communication skills required. Demonstrated supervisory experience of fundraising staff required. Working knowledge of computer-related office tools and database management.
