Job Summary:Provides clinical leadership and strategic support in utilization management (UM) and clinical documentation improvement (CDI), ensuring regulatory compliance, optimizing resource use, and enhancing patient outcomes.
Job Description:
MaineGeneral Medical Center is seeking an experienced physician, (MD or DO) for the role of Physician Advisor.
In this role, the individual will:
+ Provide clinical leadership and strategic support in utilization management (UM) and clinical documentation improvement (CDI), ensuring regulatory compliance, optimization of resources, and enhancement of patient outcomes.
+ Conduct clinical reviews of cases to assess medical necessity, collaborate with care teams on appropriate levels of care, and provide guidance on transitions, discharge planning, and post-acute care options. Monitor care inefficiencies and resource overutilization.
+ Lead or actively participate in the Utilization Review Committee, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, reviewing utilization data, and recommending process improvements. Resolve disputes with third-party payers and advocate for appropriate reimbursement.
+ Collaborate with CDI and HIM teams to improve documentation for accurate coding and DRG assignment, educate medical staff on best practices, and assist with denial management and appeals processes.
+ Provide ongoing education to staff on utilization review, documentation, and compliance, while promoting interdepartmental collaboration to improve care coordination, reduce avoidable days, and address ethical and legal considerations in discharge planning.
