    The Associate Director of Planned Giving plays a key role as a specialist in managing all operational aspects of the planned giving program at Boston Children’s Hospital. This includes overseeing and facilitating gifts from estates, trusts, retirement plans, and life insurance beneficiary designations. The Associate Director ensures the full, timely, and accurate receipt of all estate gifts being distributed to the hospital and serves as the primary point of contact for executors, trustees, and other fiduciaries managing estate gifts with designated beneficiaries.

     

    Working closely with the Assistant Vice President and Senior Director, this position provides recommendations to the Office of General Counsel and Finance on estate-related matters. As the planned giving team grows, the Associate Director will also assume responsibility for managing life income gift administration and stewardship, focusing on operational excellence across all aspects of the program.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Oversee the distribution process for all estates designated for Boston Children’s.

    + Ensure the full, timely, and accurate receipt of all wills, trusts, retirement, and life insurance beneficiary designations and other estate gifts to the hospital.

    + Serve as the primary point of contact for executors, trustees, and other fiduciaries managing payable-on-death provisions.

    + Provide recommendations, in consultation with leadership, to the Office of General Counsel and Finance.

    + Coordinate the processing of split-interest gifts (charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts) with our investment manager and administrator, currently State Street Investment Management.

    + Manage the complex process of establishing and administering life income gifts—from drafting gift annuity contracts and preparing tax calculations to processing terminations and recording gifts.

    + Respond to beneficiary inquiries regarding gift annuity or trust administration, including tax reporting.

    + Engage with donors and prospects to support relationship cultivation and stewardship.

    + Participate in marketing, communication, and engagement strategies to raise awareness of planned giving vehicles.

    + Assume responsibility for operational management of the planned giving team.

    + Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of planned giving experience with a strong understanding of planned giving vehicles and structures.

    + Experience working with attorneys, estate executors, personal representatives, and custodians on complex tax and legal issues is preferred.

    + Strong analytical skills to manage complex legal, financial, and administrative issues.

    + Highly collaborative approach within a complex institutional environment.

    + Sophisticated knowledge of tax laws and emerging strategies in gift planning.

    + Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to persuade and negotiate effectively.

    + Sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism in handling confidential donor information.
