Job Description
Purpose:
The Safety Coordinator plays a key role in safety compliance for the vast laboratories of Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) and the Texas A&M University College of Engineering. This position performs highly advanced and specialized work to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies, as well as Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) policies and regulations. Through routine site-visits to labs, identifies potential safety concerns or enhancements and provides a plan for corrective action.
Responsibilities:
Laboratory Safety Audit & Compliance (75%)
+ Oversee, manage and conduct routine review, inspection and monitoring of Engineering laboratory facilities and safety equipment to ensure a safe environment and maintain compliance.
+ Through routine site-visits to labs, identifies unsafe conditions or safety non-compliance and provides plan for corrective action.
+ Monitors compliance with safety equipment certifications.
+ Provides reports, letters, information, and support to ensure correction of related enhancements, concerns, violations, inadequacies or objectives.
+ Provides expertise to laboratory users regarding safety and compliance evaluations, recommendations, and follow-ups.
+ In collaboration with team members of Engineering Operations, responds to laboratory and facility needs.
+ Assists laboratory managers in maintaining compliance in the collection, transport, storage, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous waste as appropriate.
+ May require driving an Engineering vehicle to various locations across main campus and RELLIS.
+ Maintains a safety technical library and current knowledge of safety rules, regulations and standards.
+ Develops standard operating procedures as it relates to laboratory safety.
+ Knowledge of safety and sanitation rules and standards.
Collaboration and Training (20%)
+ Provides expert counsel in laboratory set-up and decommissioning.
+ Provides training to laboratory users on appropriate safety procedures.
+ Participates in Engineering Laboratory safety related meetings.
+ Collaborates with TAMU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to promote routine and complex laboratory safety measures including required inspections.
+ Maintains current knowledge of laws and requirements imposed upon the agency as it relates to laboratory safety and compliance.
+ Assists in the development and monitoring of laboratory safety plans.
+ Assists in maintaining comprehensive manuals, guides, checklists, presentations, procedures, processes and policies for programs.

What we need:
+ Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Three years of related experience.
What is helpful:
+ Bachelors degree in a technical related field or combination of education and experience.
+ Experience in an environmental health and safety field such as industrial hygiene, fire safety, environmental science, occupational safety or occupational health.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
+ Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Licenses, Certifications and Registrations
Valid State of Texas Driver license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
