    The University of Miami has a great opportunity for a Sr. Director, Development (Gift fundraising) to join our team at the Coral Gables campus in Miami, Florida.

    General Overview:

    A vibrant and diverse, private u niversity focused on transforming lives through teaching, research and service, the University of Miami’s Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) , in partnership with the School of Communication and the School of Education and Human Development seeks a professional with leadership skills, e xceptional work ethic, detail-oriented work habits, and with preferred experience in the major and principal gifts fundraising profession for the position of Senior Director of Development .

     

    He/she will join our diverse and high ly skilled team and will work with the Ass istant Vice President of Unit Development and the Dean of the School of Communication and the School of Education and Human Development to develop and implement key fundraising strategies for the School s and guide the fundraising program s . He/She will be an integral part of the leadership team for the School of Education and the School of Communication . He/She serves on the Dean s’ senior management team s and oversees a Development Officer , Engagement Officer, Development Officer and Development Coordinator .

    Essential Responsibilities:

    + Serve as primary development leader for the Deans of the School of Communication and the School of Education and Human Development.

    + In partnership with the deans, develop a sustainable fundraising strategy to support school priorities and meet with each Dean on a regular cadence to ensure the team is on track to meet metrics.

    + Identify prospective donors and funding sources, in conjunction with faculty and staff, and develop cultivation and solicitation plans, involving the aforementioned groups and volunteers, as appropriate .

    + Work with a cadre of volunteers to help identify , cultivate and solicit other prospective donors , host or sponsor events, leverage social media networks, facilitate introductions, etc.

    + Ensure regular communications and stewardship with donors both locally , nationally, and internationally, including re-solicitations, proper acknowledgment of gifts and pledge payments, reporting, visiting, and providing regular information on the progress of the departments , working with the DAR teams responsible for such activities .

    + While engaged in a campaign, p repare and maintain a master plan of campaign funding priorities, in conjunction with above-mentioned leadership and staff . Determine fundable projects and package them appropriately for consideration by donors.

    + Develop and implement an annual work plan to achieve goals, including campaign-related goals, with measurable objectives and courses of action for all relevant activities during the years.

    + Make appropriate recommendations to administration, and appropriate faculty concerning their roles and involvement in the identification, cultivation, or solicitation of donor prospects. Facilitate face-to-face and virtual interactions with appropriate donor s and prospects with the Dean and/or key faculty members and prepare the Deans/faculty for all donor meetings and development events .

    + Partner with colleagues in other departments, other schools and colleges as well as central development to ensure effective collaborations and synergy in achieving the university’s key fundraising goals and objectives .

    + Document all contacts, communications, visits, and proposals in I-BIS (the donor database of record) and other appropriate donor files.

    + Work with the Ass istant Vice President of Unit Development to develop appropriate fundraising budgets and revenue projections for annual and campaign giving.

    + Design and implement major gift development cultivations and special development events, designed to assist with identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major and principal gift prospects. Work with the DAR events team for the p lanning and execution of these events. Ensure regular communications and stewardship with donors, including re-solicitations, proper acknowledgement of gifts and pledge payments, reporting, visiting, and providing regular information on the progress of the departments working with the DAR central teams .

    + Supervise and manage the staff members supporting the School of Communication and the School of Education and Human Development.

    + Follow University policies and procedures. Attend meetings and appropriate training sessions for DAR .

    + Other duties as assigned

    Measurements of Success for Major Gift Fundraisers (DOs):

    + Demonstrate significant and continuous progress toward campaign or multi-year project goals. Dollar goals established with supervisor.

    + Reach yearly fundraising goal established for the So C and SEHD unit s (team goal). G oals established with supervisor.

    + Make an appropriate amount of substantive cultivation and solicitation actions toward closing gifts.  Numbers established with supervisor.

    + Reach individual yearly goals for “number and amounts solicited” and “number and amounts funded . ” Number established with supervisor.

    + Reach individual annual goals for qualification of unassigned prospects . Number established with supervisor.

    + Manage an appropriate number of active prospects and active proposals.  Number and amounts to be established with supervisor.

    Qualifications:

    Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and seven years of demonstrated successful experience in fundraising. Equivalent combination of education/experience may be considered. Must be knowledgeable about planned giving and major gift fundraising . Candidate must have an excellent command of the English language; excellent oral and written communication skills are required , as well as strong interpersonal skills. Candidates must be organized, creative, energetic, and assertive. Exceptional work ethic and commitment are essential. Knowledge of CRM systems , Microsoft Word and Excel .
