Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Art & Art History is seeking a full-time Lecturer in Art Education. The candidate will be an innovative educator with a background in visual arts who will contribute to the department’s B.F.A in Art, concentration in Art Education; and the School of Professional Studies’ Graduate Certificate in Education, concentration in Art Education. Both concentrations result in K-12 Licensure. The successful candidate will teach art education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Responsibilities include a 4/4 teaching load, and service on some Department, College, and University committees. Assigned courses include both online and face-to-face classes. Duties may include supervision and observation of Student Teacher internship candidates, and teaching courses such as: Integrating Art Across the Curriculum, Elementary or Secondary Methods, and Artists as Teachers.
The Art Education concentrations prepare teacher candidates to be leaders in varied educational communities through a rigorous professional curriculum that fosters a love of teaching and learning, understanding of learner-centered needs, and mastery of studio/classroom best practices. Art Education faculty work closely with colleagues in the studio concentrations; Arts Education faculty, Art History program; University Galleries; and College of Education.
Minimum Required Education/Experience Requirements:
+ Masters degree from an accredited institution of higher education in relevant education or art education field along with professional work experience in K-12 classrooms.
+ Current North Carolina K12 Teaching License in Art, Teaching License in Art in another state, or qualified to become licensed in NC.
+ Demonstrated ability to use technology and digital media to support teaching.
+ Critical competence in some forms of visual art studio practice.
+ Demonstrated ability to mentor art teachers through observation, feedback, and coaching.

Minimum Experience / Education:
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:
+ A terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) from an accredited institution of higher education.
+ Three years of successful Visual Arts teaching in K-12 settings.
+ Confident leadership and communication skills, with ability to work collaboratively.
+ Command of pedagogical practices in art and design teaching and learning, especially for children and youth. Experience with contemporary issues in education.
+ Experience with practicum and clinical teaching supervision.
+ Familiarity with state standards governing teacher education programs and teacher licensure.
+ Ability to work supportively with students, faculty, staff, clinical educators, and alumni in the maintenance and development of a professional learning community.
+ Knowledge of edTPA and CPAST instruments for teacher candidate assessment will be helpful.
+ Knowledge of contemporary art and art history.
+ An understanding of classroom teaching as both practice and research.
