The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for researching, planning, and designing mechanical products and systems. This role involves directing and coordinating activities related to the fabrication, operation, application, and installation of mechanical systems. The position focuses on the light industrial product line, adapting existing designs based on customer specifications and gradually expanding to all product lines. Key tasks include creating approval drawings, production drawings, and final updates, as well as generating bills of materials and assisting in customer quotes.
Responsibilities
+ Research and analyze data such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of designs or applications.
+ Design products or systems including instruments, controls, robots, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems while considering cost, performance, materials, maintenance, appearance, and user impact.
+ Oversee all aspects of design, development, construction, and testing processes.
+ Conduct research into mechanical components, heating and cooling processes, material handling, and control methods for liquids and gasses.
+ Explore machine configurations and assist in selecting the optimum design to meet customer processing objectives.
+ Perform calculations to predict the performance of finished machines.
+ Specify materials and components to meet performance, quality, cost, and safety standards.
+ Use computer software to generate designs, models, and documentation.
+ Assist in supplier selection and evaluate incoming materials.
+ Provide manufacturing support, troubleshooting, and continuous process improvement.
+ Serve as a technical resource to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
+ Work with the design team on workflow, CAD drawing preparation, and BOM structure.
+ Direct activities to ensure manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing meet specifications and requirements.
+ Use computer-assisted engineering and design software for engineering tasks.
+ Make engineering changes and improvements within the CAD environment and process engineering change requests.
+ Ensure customer satisfaction aligns with expectations.
+ Participate in design reviews and interpret technical materials.
+ Provide product support on the manufacturing floor.
Essential Skills
+ Proficient in CAD design, specifically using Inventor or Solidworks.
+ Experience in designing custom machines or industrial equipment, with a preference for a minimum of 5 years.
+ Proficient in Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
+ Strong communication skills to facilitate cross-functional communication between sales, operations, and customers.
+ Knowledge in thermodynamics and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with heat treat or furnace systems.
+ Experience in thermodynamics.
+ Experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
+ Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Work Environment
Working within an engineering team consisting of five mechanical engineers focusing on original equipment design, one designer for spare parts, and two electrical engineers.
The role primarily involves desk work for design tasks but also requires occasional floor visits to address design build challenges.
The team designs and manufactures industrial and laboratory ovens, furnaces, and environmental test chambers used across diverse industries.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.06 - $45.67/hr.
