    CARDIOLOGY (BILLINGS CLINIC CLINIC)

    Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)

     

    Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours every two weeks (Non-Exempt)

     

    Starting Wage DOE: $17.15 - 21.44

     

    Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant II supports the delivery of patient care and treatment while also providing administrative and clerical assistance. The role involves working collaboratively with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and other healthcare staff to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational, and spiritual needs of patients and their families. The Medical Assistant II performs more complex patient care tasks compared to a Level I, including administering medications, assisting with minor procedures, and taking a more active role in patient preparation and education. This position plays a vital role in enhancing the patient care experience while ensuring the efficient functioning of the clinical environment.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Ensure compliance with all mandatory organizational and departmental standards, including those related to employee, patient safety, and job performance.

    • Maintain competency in organizational, departmental, and external agency standards related to the environment, patient care, and safety.

    • Prepare patient exam rooms, equipment, and supplies based on specific patient needs and examination requirements.

    • Assist with patient scheduling for appointments, diagnostic tests, treatments, procedures, and surgeries. May also help with registration and co-pay collection.

    • Obtain and record patient history and vital signs, assist with minor procedures, and document in the medical record.

    • Collect laboratory specimens, ensuring proper labeling and handling according to department guidelines.

    • Clean and disinfect equipment per Billings Clinic infection control protocols.

    • Administer vaccines as per department guidelines and individual leveling requirements.

    • Assist physicians and APPs with minor procedures and physical exams, such as stitch removal, application of dressings, ear lavage, and splinting.

    • Administer medications, as specified in department guidelines, once appropriate training has been completed.

    • Provide instruction to patients as directed by the physician, APP, or in accordance with department policies and procedures.

    • Answer and screen incoming telephone calls, directing them to the appropriate nurse, physician, or APP as needed.

    • Order and maintain clinical and office supplies and equipment according to department requirements.

    • Maintain and update patient files, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.

    • Compile statistical data and reports as directed by supervisors or department leadership.

    • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as needed to support department operations.

    • Work collaboratively with physicians, APPs, RNs, LPNs, and other healthcare personnel to provide comprehensive patient care.

    • Support patient service needs and communicate effectively to ensure the patient’s comfort and understanding.

    • Assist with service recovery as necessary, helping resolve patient issues or concerns in a timely and professional manner.

    • Participate in process improvement and risk management activities as directed by the department leadership.

    • Ensure adherence to patient safety goals and standards, contributing to the overall quality of patient care and clinical practice.

    • Follow department-specific procedures and protocols for pharmaceutical handling, ensuring safe medication administration and patient care practices.

    • Level II:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) required

    Key Responsibilities: Perform a wider range of clinical tasks with greater independence, including assisting in more complex procedures, administering additional medications (e.g., oral and injectable), and coordinating patient care in conjunction with providers.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    • High school diploma or its equivalent

    • Graduation from a formal Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or an equivalent program.

    • Medical Terminology, Medication History, and New Clinic Staff Class within 6 months and/or prior to testing

    • Completion of required competency modules

    Experience

    • Additional experience in medical office or clinical settings is preferred.

    Certifications and Licenses

    • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) At hire

     

    Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Employees that require a licensed or certification must be properly licensed/certified and the licensure/certification must be in good standing.
