    Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)

     

    Hours per Pay Period: 0.90 = 72 hours every two weeks (Non-Exempt)

     

    Starting Wage DOE: $33.66 - 42.07

     

    The incumbent in this position will be responsible for providing professional lactation support and consultation for both inpatient and outpatient services. Duties will include participation in the development of the lactation program for BILLINGS CLINIC’s Women’s & Children’s Services, providing ongoing education programs for women and their families.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service.

    • Participates in development or revision of departmental policies, procedures, objectives and program development relating to a comprehensive infant feeding program and lactation education/consultation services and current research findings.

    • Provides direct lactation support and consultation across the continuum of pregnancy for both inpatient and outpatient services demonstrating consideration of special needs and behaviors of specific age groups served and in accordance with current standards of practice.

    • Utilizes a holistic approach, incorporating the nursing process into the plan of care for the patient. Plan of care should include biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational and discharge planning. Provides an accurate assessment of patient condition to assure appropriate response to changing patient status and needs. Consults with and makes referrals to other health care providers as appropriate.

    • Evaluates the learning process of the patient, significant other, and other family members. Provides education and consultation services in appropriate health and post discharge care as it relates to lactation services.

    • Maintains accurate and concise patient records reflecting assessment of physical and emotional status; develops individual care plans to assure continuity of care and to meet legal requirements as related to lactation needs.

    • Maintains appropriate skill/knowledge with: application and patient relevance of commonly used equipment specific to area; pharmacological application; application of laboratory values with disease process or physiological status.

    • Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality of care and services provided. Analyzes and shares the practice implications of nursing research in specialty area.

    • Participates in the orientation, training and ongoing education of other health care providers within Women’s & Children’s Services.

    • Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.

    • Identifies and anticipates problems and safety issues and initiates appropriate action. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance.

    • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

    • Analytical skills necessary in order to prepare nursing care plans, coordinate and implement effective nursing care and to develop solutions to problems concerning patients’ mental or physical well-being

    • Application of leadership skills

    • Developing and presenting information to varied and diverse audiences

    • Demonstrates organizational skills with the ability to develop and implement new programs

    • Incorporate cultural diversity and age appropriate care into all aspects of communication and patient care; scope of services provided will encompass age groups from infant through geriatric

    • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbal and written

    • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships

    • Respond calmly and professionally during emergent or difficult situations

    • Utilize time management concepts or maximize time effectively

    • Lift, push and move heavy equipment and supplies ( up to 50 pounds)

    • Resourcefulness in dealing with emergency situations

    • Practices within scope of RN licensure

    • Serves as a resource for patient care; accountable to provide clinically sound information

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    • 2 Year / Associates Degree (ASN) - Associate (or Diploma) RNs with less than 5 years of experience must commit to completing their Bachelor of Nursing degree within 4 years of their date of hire. Billings Clinic will help support the cost through financial assistance

    • Preferred - 4 Year / Bachelors Degree (BSN)

    Experience

    • One year of medical/surgical experience or related clinical area, preferred

    • One year of labor/delivery experience, preferred

    Certifications

    • Certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCLC) as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) within 2 years of hire

    • CPR certified at hire

    • Or a non-nurse with IBCLC certification at hire

    • Or a non-nurse with CLC certification and 50 hours of direct patient lactation education at hire

    Licenses

    • Current Montana state license as a registered nurse, at hire

    Other Minimum Qualifications

    • Previous teaching experience, preferred
