Job Title: Mobile Fleet Mechanic

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and self-driven Mobile Fleet Mechanic to perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on utility fleet equipment in the field. This role involves working on aerial devices such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other specialized vehicles used in electrical line work. The position requires independent work on active job sites with a strong commitment to safety and compliance.

Responsibilities

+ Perform diagnostics and repairs on utility fleet equipment.

+ Conduct preventative maintenance on aerial devices, digger derricks, and specialized vehicles.

+ Work independently on active job sites, ensuring safety and compliance.

+ Troubleshoot and repair diesel/gas engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and emissions diagnostics.

+ Perform vehicle inspections in accordance with ANSI A92.2 and DOT standards.

+ Conduct emergency call-outs and preventative maintenance alongside a lead mechanic.

+ Work on a variety of equipment, including skid-steer loaders and excavators.

Essential Skills

+ 3+ years of experience with utility, construction, or fleet vehicles.

+ Proficiency in diesel/gas engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and emissions diagnostics.

+ Valid driver’s license (Class A preferred or willing to obtain).

+ Familiarity with ANSI A92.2 and DOT vehicle inspection standards.

+ Ability to work independently in rugged, outdoor environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Technical certification in diesel or heavy vehicle repair.

+ Experience with aerial lifts, digger derricks, and hydraulic lifting equipment.

+ Proficient in reading schematics and using computer-based diagnostic tools.

Work Environment

The work environment consists of outdoor construction sites throughout California, exposing mechanics to varying weather conditions. Fleet trucks operate 24/7, requiring mechanics to handle night-time emergencies as necessary. Mechanics will not remove engines but will perform on-site preventative maintenance and major repairs when trucks cannot reach the shop. Safety is paramount, requiring PPE and high-visibility vests at all times. Teamwork is emphasized with mechanics working in pairs to ensure safety and support.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Benicia, California.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
