Role Overview
We are seeking a Board-Certified Veterinary Nutritionist (DVM, DACVIM Nutrition) to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of fresh pet nutrition at Nom Nom and Royal Canin Fresh. This role offers the opportunity to apply deep veterinary expertise to a rapidly growing portfolio of diets and health-focused products, while influencing how fresh nutrition is developed and delivered at scale.
As part of a lean, high-impact R&D team, the Veterinary Nutritionist will set nutritional direction, ensure scientific credibility, and guide the design of products that improve the lives of pets. You will have immediate responsibility for both strategic leadership and hands-on formulation, with the potential to grow a supporting team over time. This is a unique opportunity to combine clinical expertise with real-world product impact in collaboration with some of the most innovative brands in pet nutrition.
Key Responsibilities
Nutritional Strategy & Leadership
+ Define nutritional standards and guide product development strategy for fresh diets and related health products.
+ Provide governance on finished product nutrient profiles and compliance with AAFCO nutrient requirements and internal Mars nutritional standards.
+ Lead day-to-day formulation activities in the near term; shape longer-term plans for building a supporting formulation team.
Claims, Validation & Scientific Communication
+ Partner with Mars stakeholders in Regulatory Affairs and Q&FS to support claims development and substantiation.
+ Provide nutritional input to feeding study design and other validation activities.
+ Contribute to scientific communications for veterinarians, partners, and external stakeholders.
Collaboration within R&D
+ Work closely with the Product Development Lead and future R&D roles to bring new products from concept through commercialization.
+ Partner with Operations to ensure products are manufacturable and perform consistently.
+ Provide expertise to Marketing and Customer Experience teams to inform feeding guidelines and respond to nutritional inquiries.
Research & Continuous Improvement
+ Stay current on emerging veterinary nutrition science and translate insights into pipeline opportunities.
+ Monitor nutritional performance post-launch and apply new scientific findings to drive continuous improvement.
Requirements
+ DVM degree; **Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist (required).**
+ Demonstrated expertise in small animal nutrition and application to commercial product development.
+ Experience supporting nutritional claims, feeding performance, and regulatory alignment.
+ Strong communication and collaboration skills across scientific and cross-functional teams.
+ Ability to work in a lean, entrepreneurial environment while aligning with Mars/Royal Canin processes.
