Description
ICM Solutions is seeking a skilled structural steel Sawyer & Material Cutter to support our operations in Oroville, CA. This is a skilled position responsible for the precise layout, measurement, and cutting of raw steel stock for fabrication projects. The ideal candidate has significant experience operating a variety of metal-cutting saws, is highly proficient in interpreting engineering blueprints, and has a strong focus on accuracy, material optimization, and safety. This role is a critical first step in the fabrication process and requires close collaboration with the fabrication and welding teams. The ideal candidate is safety-focused and committed to continuous improvement and team development.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Quality and Safety:
+ Perform all duties in strict adherence to company and OSHA safety protocols, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
+ Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are stored properly.
+ Utilize and comply with company and facility safety programs, processes, and procedures.
+ Blueprint and Specification Interpretation:
+ Read, understand, and work from complex blueprints, cut sheets, and engineering specifications to determine the correct materials, dimensions, and angles for all cuts.
+ Assess drawings for potential errors or discrepancies and communicate findings to supervisors or engineers for clarification.
Material Preparation and Layout:
+ Accurately measure and lay out dimensions and reference lines on steel stock, including beams, channels, and plates, using scribes, rulers, squares, and protractors.
+ Strategically plan cut sequences to maximize material yield and minimize scrap waste.
Saw Operations:
+ Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of metal-cutting saws, such as CNC band saws, miter saws, and shears, to cut materials to exact specifications.
+ Monitor machine operations, adjusting speed and tension to ensure proper and safe performance.
+ Material Handling and Inspection:
+ Safely use material handling equipment, such as overhead cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts, to load and unload steel stock onto saw tables.
+ Conduct initial inspections of raw stock for defects or imperfections and inspect completed cuts to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality.
Experience:
+ Proven experience as a saw operator or material cutter in a structural steel fabrication or manufacturing environment.
+ High level of proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering blueprints and cut sheets.
+ Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to work with fractions and decimals.
+ Knowledge of various metal types (e.g., steel, aluminum, stainless steel) and their characteristics.
+ Physical strength and stamina required for a physically active role that includes standing for long periods and moving heavy materials.
+ Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
+ Excellent attention to detail for performing accurate work and quality checks.
+ Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
+ Good communication skills to collaborate with team members and supervisors.
