The **Construction Project Manager (CPM)** within Microsoft’s Data Center Delivery (DCD) organization plays a pivotal role in enabling the global expansion of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure. CPM drives the deployment of large-scale, campus-based delivery solutions that can be scaled and replicated across Microsoft’s global data center portfolio.
In this role, the DCD CPM organization provides strategic leadership and hands-on execution, serving as the primary point of contact for project development and delivery. The team partners closely with Commissioning, Operations, Security, Engineering, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), vendors, and regional corporate leadership to deliver on Microsoft’s mission-critical construction goals.
By analyzing industry best practices, optimizing internal processes, and recommending data-driven improvements, the CPM team delivers solutions that drive cost savings, enhance customer experience, and improve asset performance. DCD CPM is empowered to make key decisions, influence partners, and resolve complex issues affecting global projects while ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.
The DCD CPM also champions a culture of safety, compliance, and risk management, interpreting regulatory requirements to enforce standards and establishing metrics, dashboards, and scorecards to drive performance and accountability. By fostering vendor relationships and robust project governance, the team ensures the successful delivery of mission-critical, large-scale data center campuses that enable Microsoft’s cloud growth worldwide.

Responsibilities
+ **Manage Budgets & Controls:** Monitor project budgets, oversee financial processes (PERs, PSRs, change orders), and recommend adjustments to ensure cost efficiency.
+ **Drive Project Delivery:** Lead campus/metro construction projects from planning to completion, making timely, data-driven decisions to meet milestones.
+ **Ensure Safety & Compliance:** Champion safety standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA), conduct audits, and manage risk mitigation strategies.
+ **Oversee Vendor Management:** Select, evaluate, and manage vendors/contractors, ensuring adherence to contracts, performance standards, and budget alignment.
+ **Lead Change & Stakeholder Engagement:** Partner with internal teams and stakeholders to implement process improvements that enhance cost savings and efficiency.
+ **Apply Technical & Financial Expertise:** Review engineering designs, identify risks, and incorporate cost-effective solutions to optimize project outcomes.
+ **Coordinate Resources & Reporting:** Oversee procurement, staffing, and material needs while tracking and reporting on project scope, schedule, and budget.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years related experience delivering data center projects or other mission-critical facilities with specialized systems (e.g., mechanical/electrical infrastructure, OFCI equipment, commissioning).
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ Demonstrated expertise in end-to-end project delivery — including scope, schedule, budget development and control, project tracking, change management, and risk mitigation — for complex, multi-building campus programs.
+ Proven ability to analyze cost and KPI metrics, review pay applications, manage contracts and vendor performance, and communicate project status to internal and external stakeholders.
+ Experience performing risk analysis and mitigation, including identifying and addressing safety, financial, and schedule risks with measurable mitigation plans and progress tracking via dashboards, metrics, or scorecards.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ 15+ years of experience delivering data center projects or other mission-critical facilities with specialized systems (e.g., mechanical/electrical infrastructure, OFCI equipment, commissioning).
+ Demonstrated success in driving deployment of global or portfolio-level campus delivery solutions, leveraging lessons learned and best practices to improve efficiency, cost control, and customer satisfaction.
+ Advanced experience with budgeting, forecasting, cost-to-complete analysis, contract negotiations, and change-order workflows to achieve financially responsible project delivery.
+ Deep knowledge of construction planning and logistics for large, multi-phased campus projects, including early-stage site readiness and integration of vendor-supplied equipment.
+ Proficiency in developing and reporting on KPIs and cost metrics using dashboards or other reporting tools to provide transparency to executive leadership and partners.
+ Demonstrated background in compliance management and safety governance, with a track record of enforcing regulatory standards and fostering a culture of safety and quality.
+ Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide cross-functional teams and build trusted relationships with vendors, consultants, and regional leadership to ensure consistent delivery excellence across programs.
+ Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to review quantitative and qualitative data to draw valid conclusions, identify root causes, and drive data-informed decisions.
+ Effective communication, leadership, and decision-making skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels to resolve complex issues and drive on-time, on-budget delivery.
+ Experience in managing vendor and stakeholder relationships, fostering collaboration across internal teams and external partners
Construction Project Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
