    LECTURER POSITION - CHEMISTRY

    STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY invites applications for a one-year, renewable, non-tenure track lecturer position in the Department of Chemistry (https://www.stonybrook.edu/chemistry/) beginning in January 2026. Stony Brook is a research university with a strong commitment to curricular innovation. The position includes opportunities for curriculum development and for training and supervision of teaching assistants in the Department's undergraduate chemistry courses. Initial assignment will likely be in our organic chemistry courses, and may include both lecture and laboratory components. Proficiency and comfort with teaching other areas of Chemistry would be considered favorably. A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Education, or related fields is required. Previous experience administering large lecture or lab courses would be a plus.     Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    A Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Chemistry, Chemical Education or related field are required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Previous experience administering large lab or lecture courses would be a plus.

     

    1. Teaching experience in college-level chemistry courses.

    2. Qualified for training and supervision of teaching assistants.

    3. Demonstrated experience in utilization of the computer as a teaching tool.

    4. Relevance of teaching interests to Department needs.

    5. Strength of letters of reference, especially with regards to teaching ability and experience.

    6. Expertise and familiarity with laboratory techniques and instrumentation.

    7. Commitment to safety and best practices in the laboratory.
