    GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES:

    As the Touring Exhibitions Project Manager, you will lead the delivery of The Met’s consistently high-quality touring exhibition program, developing and touring exhibitions to domestic and international venues. The Met’s touring exhibition program is an important part of the international initiatives program; these highly anticipated projects with international partners and venues allow us to directly engage global audiences with both our collection and our scholarship. You will partner with the stakeholders across the museum to develop and manage desirable and feasible touring projects, identify venues, place projects, and coordinate all aspects of the touring program internally and externally. You will manage all correspondence, serve as the key liaison between venues and Met staff, and manages the department’s venue and project databases, as well as all project budgets. The Touring Exhibitions Project Manager may also serve as Project Manager for select Met exhibitions presented at The Met prior to touring.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILIES & DUTIES:

    + Works closely with key stakeholders to develop touring exhibitions, identify venues that meet The Met’s strategic goals, create project plans and oversee budgets.

    + Manages relationships with confirmed and potential venues; represents the Museum nationally and internationally to promote exhibitions, cultivate new proposals and venues, and maintain contact with venues.

    + Manages complex logistics of multiple simultaneous touring exhibition projects, including management of the master touring exhibition schedule and coordination with the master Met exhibition schedule; applies expert knowledge of exhibition coordination and project management to planning and execution of concurrent projects.

    + Schedules and leads project development and planning meetings for all touring exhibition projects as necessary; communicates progress and next steps clearly and effectively. Manages budgets and deliverable deadlines working with appropriate staff, and invoices partners.

    + Works with The Met’s Counsel’s Office and the Exhibition Project Manager, Administration to draft and negotiate all contracts for touring exhibitions with venues and any project-based temporary staff.

    + Facilitates contact with Publications and Retail to maximize revenue opportunities from traveling exhibitions.

    + Works with The Met’s Marketing and Communications teams to support promotional and press opportunities for traveling exhibitions.

    + Monitors work of outside consultants and vendors as necessary.

    + Utilizes expertise in project management and analysis to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality, maintain consistency with Exhibitions Department protocols and processes under the leadership of the Senior Manager of Exhibitions

    + Serves as courier and primary Met touring exhibitions program representative at exhibition venues as needed.

    + Manages all aspects of in-house presentations of select touring exhibitions prior to tour

    + Assembles, manages and analyzes touring exhibition budgets and touring exhibition revenue projections.

    + Supports other international projects as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Bachelor’s in art history or other related areas required, MA preferred.

    + 4-5 years of progressive experience coordinating complex exhibitions or multifaceted international projects

    + Superior project management skills; proven expertise in managing and motivating project teams; ability to work under pressure and on deadline is essential

    + Proven history of managing exhibitions or major international projects of increasing scale and complexity from start to finish and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects

    + Ability to travel internationally

    + Expertise in representing institutions nationally and internationally with key project partners; expertise in touring exhibitions, knowledge of emerging markets and international network a plus

    + Exceptional organizational skills required

    + Ability to problem solve and prioritize needs and time

    + Demonstrated experience communicating clearly, effectively, and building trust with external clients and international partners

    + Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across all levels and across all disciplines within The Met

    + Excellent skills in budgeting and financial analysis

    + Comprehensive knowledge of art conservation, registration, and art handling

    + Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills

    + Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, TMS, and Outlook

    COMPENSATION RANGE:

    + Pay Range: $100,000.00 - $110,000.00 / Annually

The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.

    Location Requirements

    At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
