Wheat Ridge Regional Center
This work unit exists to provide an active learning atmosphere in a safe and healthy environment for residents with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities. This work unit provides 24-hour treatment services in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
Description of Job
About the Position:
The Safety Specialist III manages and oversees functions and projects that are critical to WRRC and maintains licenses for 19 ICF/ID residential homes. This position acts as the liaison for the Department of Facilities Management (DFM), Colorado Department of Public Safety, Life Safety Division (CDPS), and local Fire Departments having jurisdiction. This position responds to CDPS Life Safety Code Surveys and local fire department concerns and develops and implements plans of correction. This position is responsible for researching and purchasing home furnishings for group homes, including appliances, medical equipment, and house furniture. This position coordinates all moves within the agency (staff and resident moves). This position is responsible for the development and oversight of disaster emergency plans, which ensures that monthly fire drills are performed as scheduled, the monthly disaster emergency plan in-services are current, resident fire ratings are current, and required DFM monthly and quarterly documentation on life safety equipment is up to date for all the homes. This position is responsible for Life Safety audits and the development of plans of correction.
Job Duties:
-Evaluate current equipment and furnishings at the homes and decide if repair is possible or, due to safety issues to individuals or staff, items need to be replaced immediately.
-Daily decision making on the cost of repairs vs replacements to adhere to budget considerations.
-Determine the purchase of agency furnishings.
-Determine the Plan of Correction to effectively address the deficiency(s) to prevent recurrence. Noted deficiencies, whether discovered in the field or cited by the Colorado Department of Public Safety Life Safety Division, are addressed through in-services.
-Adheres to compliance for licensing requirements, the Disaster Emergency Plan Book for all 19 ICF/ID residential homes is reviewed monthly to ensure that all documentation is complete and accurate.
-Determine that monthly fire drills have been performed when scheduled.
-Determine that monthly disaster emergency in-services have been documented, monthly and quarterly facility inspection documentation on life safety equipment has been performed and is current; otherwise, make immediate corrections. Missing and incomplete documentation is tracked back to the responsible supervisor, and a request/deadline is made for the documentation.
-Ensure that communication and logistics are maintained with all levels of management and support groups whenever any activity that may affect individuals is scheduled.

CDHS Selection Process Explanation
Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
