    Custom Job Purpose:

    This position exists to perform responsible work for all aspects of school social work services and programs and serves as a liaison to Juvenile Court for Polk County Schools. Responsible for administering the district's Home Education and Driver License Attendance Programs.

     

    Essential Functions of this Job

     

    Provides clinical supervision and coordinates the activities and service delivery of school social workers within the school district. Recommends personnel for employment, assigns social work tasks, evaluates and manages employee performance, and manages employee counseling activities when necessary, up to and including dismissals. Responsible for seeing that students referred for social work services are properly addressed. Plans and coordinates the School Social Work Services program. Manages the program budget.

     

    Works with community partners/agencies and school board personnel in the provision of quality programs and services for students and families. Coordinates communications between school district personnel, community and governmental agencies. Provides oversight of interagency agreements with juvenile court, law enforcement, and juvenile justice personnel to ensure compliance with state statutes. Responsible for program evaluation and data analysis. Reviews and recommends research-based and best practice social work programs/services for students. Plans and coordinates professional learning/inservice activities. Manages district Home Education and Driver License Attendance programs. Develops and maintains an accountability tracking system for school social workers and students referred for social work services.

     

    Non-Essential Functions of this Job

     

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Considerable knowledge of the School District's Social Work Services program. Extensive knowledge of School Board policies and procedures. Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of social casework, consultation, counseling, social skills, crisis intervention, and other professional methods and procedures. Ability to supervise and coordinate the activities of school social workers. Must possess strong interviewing, communication, and interpersonal relationship skills. Ability to make sound professional judgments. Ability to maintain confidential reports and records on students. Must demonstrate leadership abilities. Ability to plan, develop, organize, implement, monitor and evaluate programs and services. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.

     

    Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements

     

    Graduation from an accredited college with a Master's Degree in Social Work and 3-5 years of experience as a school social worker is required. Three to five years of experience in supervision is required. Certification in the areas of School Social Work and Educational Leadership/Administration & Supervision or Licensed Clinical Social Worker is also required.

    Work Context:

    Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with both internal and external contacts, and with the public.

    Physical Environment:

    Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting for the majority of the day, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects infrequently weighing up to 20 pounds.
