We operate a cow/calf operation that requires daily assistance and attention during the winter months. The cattle return from pasture to the farm at the beginning of December and must be fed and cared for each day. Duties include operating equipment to feed the animals, loading feed into a mixer wagon, distributing it to the designated groups, cleaning pens and bedding animals, monitoring livestock for illness or injury, sorting and treating animals as needed, following the annual vaccination protocol, checking waterers, performing occasional fence repair and maintenance, and assisting with hauling feed byproducts for daily winter feed requirements. In addition to cattle feeding, general equipment maintenance and repairs are also required. Beginning in February, calving season increases the need for close monitoring, assisting with births, and conducting routine checks to ensure calf health and well-being. Extra labor is only needed during these months, as cattle require daily feeding and intensive care throughout the coldest part of the year. Once the weather warms in March, the herd is moved to pasture where they become more self-sufficient, reducing the need for additional labor. Job duties will include operating tractors, trucks, manure spreaders, and other farm equipment, as well as loading and unloading crops or materials manually or with conveyors, forklifts, hand trucks, or transfer augers. Employees will feed machines by loading hoppers, containers, or conveyors using forklifts, augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks, and will manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust machinery. They will observe and listen to equipment to detect malfunctions, and will be responsible for inspecting, adjusting, and performing routine maintenance and repairs. Duties also include cleaning stalls, pens, and equipment using disinfectants, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps; distributing feed and water to livestock; monitoring supplies; and hauling feed, crops, or other materials. Employees will examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and herd livestock to pastures, scales, trucks, or enclosures as needed. Additional responsibilities include inspecting, maintaining, and repairing machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences; marking livestock for identification or grading; moving equipment, poultry, or livestock manually or with carts or trucks; and performing livestock reproduction duties such as breeding, artificial insemination, and assisting with animal births. Employees will provide medical treatment to livestock, including administering medications and vaccinations or arranging veterinary care, and will segregate animals by weight, age, color, or condition. Other tasks include bedding animals, pushing snow, checking and repairing waterers, and assisting with sorting, vaccinating, and treating sick animals. Operating general farm equipment to feed cattle, as well as trucks to haul feed supplies. Performing routine maintenance and repairs on farm equipment. Assisting in birthing, vaccinating, treating sick animals, and sorting animals from each other. Checking waterers and repairing if needed, bedding animals, pushing snow, and occasional fence repair/maintenance.
Employer will conduct post-hire drug tests at no cost to the employee to enforce a drug free workplace policy. Failing a drug test will result in termination.
