    Job Description

    Evaluate human semen, spermatozoa and testicular cells using standard clinical, cellular and biochemical techniques and novel experimental approaches. Perform semen analysis, sperm cryopreservation, insemination preparation and testicular sperm retrieval techniques. Perform research under direction of Lab Director. Suggest and evaluate novel research and methods.

     

    _Complexities_

     

    The position will perform routine clinical Andrology laboratory work as well as projects designed to develop novel methods to test sperm dysfunctions. Perform routine scientific work, evaluating, selecting and applying standardized and modified scientific procedures and techniques to assignments with clear, specific objectives.

     

    _Duties and Responsibilities_

    In the Male Fertility Laboratory (80%):

    Interact in a collaborative manner with other team members and clinic staff to accomplish organizational goals.

     

    Aseptic handling and processing of human sperm and testis samples.

     

    Basic semen analysis and clinical sperm function tests.

     

    Assist with maintenance and quality control.

    In the Andrology Research Laboratory (20%):

    Using accepted methods and techniques, solve well-defined problems and perform specific and limited portions of broader projects, under technical guidance of the Laboratory Director.

     

    Make minor modifications to research procedures or propose new research techniques to accomplish research goals.

     

    Develop cell culture techniques for pre-pubertal and adult human germ cells.

     

    Aseptic handling and processing of sperm and testis samples in biosafety cabinets.

     

    Maintenance, quality control and cleaning of instruments and equipment.

     

    Collection and Documentation of Data (both labs): Included within the above percentages

     

    Provide complete and precise data for clinical tests in worksheets and log book.

     

    Accurately transfer clinical data to final reports using electronic medical records.

     

    Provide finalized data for publication and preliminary data for grant applications.

     

    Demonstrate proficiency in data collection and simple statistical analysis.

     

    Maintain documentation, files and notebooks.

     

    Perform other duties as assigned

    _Required Skills, Experience and Knowledge_

    A Bachelor's degree in the basic biological sciences is required with an emphasis in one of the biology disciplines and one year's experience working in an Andrology, IVF or CLIA certified lab; OR Equivalent combination of education/experience.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Proven leadership and interpersonal skills.

    + Excellent hand-eye coordination.

    + Qualifications must meet Federal CLIA Qualification Code TPH4 for Testing Personnel.

    _Desirable Skills, Experience and Knowledge_

    + Ability to generate tables and queries in a database is desirable.

    + Experience in the handling and processing of human tissues and blood is highly desired but not a requirement.

     

    _Conditions of Employment_

     

    The Male Fertility Lab is a fragrance- and cigarette smoke-free area. Smokers are not eligible for this position.

    Regular and predictable attendance is required

    **Shift Information** : MONDAY-FRIDAY 8 hours per day. Work hours may vary, occasionally requiring early mornings and weekend work as required to maintain cell cultures, etc.

     

    Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $51,312.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $93,180.00 annual
