The Electrified Propulsion Engineering (EPE) organization is responsible for delivering the best fuel economy and refined Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Electric vehicles in every segment in which we contend. Battery Unit Design and Technology Development
+ Lead the design, development and launch of High Voltage Battery Packs in support of Cycle Planning activities for all EPE systems (HEV, PHEV, EREV, BEV)
+ Lead High Voltage Battery Pack Design for programs in the Cycle Plan, including cell retention / packaging, thermal systems, electrical bussing and Cell to Pack / Cell to Structure designs from Unit Program Start (uPS) through product sunset (launch + 6 years)
+ Lead the implementation of Ongoing Product Development (OPD) and Total Value Management (TVM) for all high voltage batteries post launch, utilizing 6 months bundles
+ Support and advise on the cell selection, series and parallel count and battery pack conceptual design including cell block (arrays/modules), thermal architecture and sizing, cell bussing and sensing, and high voltage distribution in the early program milestones up to u-PS, utilizing past lessons learned from previous launches
+ Own the Battery Unit Workbook from uPS through launch
+ Drive alignment with Vehicle Engineering teams on vehicle attribute targets and status to targets
+ Drive the analysis and testing of Cell Vent Management architectures to meet or exceed corporate safety goals
+ Support the implementation of Technology Roadmaps for non-cell HV Battery pack designs, interfacing with Core / Pre-Program team, Ford Ion Park, Battery Manufacturing, Purchasing and Planning
+ Support and regularly update total program costs (entire variable cost including logistics, manufacturing opex and capex, tooling) for HV Battery System, with an endless pursuit for finding the total lowest cost solution
+ Manage and maintain Jira-based tracking system of High Voltage Battery Unit Programs, utilizing priority levels and escalation processes
+ Support Battery Manufacturing Engineering with FMA; Review Quality History, and Prevent Recurrence for HV Battery
+ Lead the implementation of the Technical Specialist Sign-Off process into battery unit program milestones
+ Manage and maintain key engineering documentation (Boundary Diagrams, Interface Matrix, DFMEA, Robustness Checklist, …)
People Development and Resource Management
+ Establish and foster a Ready for Anything mentality; know what excellence looks like and constantly assess if the team is meeting that standard
+ Ensure Department and People Objectives are in place, aligned with cascaded corporate objectives; Hold regular check-ins with direct reports; Recognize and reward successes
+ Lead quarterly department level meetings and hold regular skip-level meetings; encourage and support team events to foster team building
+ Manage department budget and resources including Materials, Purchased Services, Testing, and Travel budget
+ Coach and mentor FCG students; actively provide opportunities for Interns and FCGs
+ Implement development plans to ensure people leaders and engineers have the appropriate skills and depth required to be successful
The Ideal Candidate
+ In depth technical knowledge of HV Battery systems, including working knowledge of the individual subsystems (Cell block/array, BECM, BEC, thermal, DCDC/OBC, structures)
+ Able to hold true Technical Design Reviews and Deep Dives
+ Develop focus questions and challenge team w/o having to be right all the time
+ Strong systems engineering mindset, able to quickly weigh tradeoffs/impacts for cost/weight/function
+ Data driven approach, drive and challenge the team to gather/develop data to make decisions vs relying on opinion or "that's what I know"
+ Don't be right, find what's right
+ Look at the entire system impact, not your own black box
+ In depth knowledge of a high-volume automotive product development process and deliverables, preferably for high voltage battery
+ Fundamental knowledge and experience of what it takes to deliver, while pushing system to improve efficiency
+ Uses their voice to challenge the status quo and challenge past assumptions
+ Strong collaboration skills, able to build and maintain relationships with other cross functional stakeholders like supply chain, finance, manufacturing, and vehicle program
+ Able to see others’ perspective, working closely to define and motivate to achieve common goals
+ Develop strong working relationships with TS community to develop both designs and technical review process
+ Future vision / forward looking / growth mindset, able to see where technology is moving, and lead team to successful implementation
+ Develop stretch but achievable goals for teams, based on fundamental understanding of what may be possible
+ Have a finger on the pulse of Technology Roadmap / Vector and provide feedback / guidance on what would be achievable and when
+ Talent development and building the best teams
+ Established industry network and experience building and sustaining the best teams
+ Understanding where internal skill gaps are that are required to execute on vision and addressing them strategically, either through effective training /upskilling or talent management
You'll have...
+ Bachelor's in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
+ 10+ Years of High Voltage Battery Design or Related System Design
+ Demonstrated delivery of HV Systems, preferably through the entire development process
+ Demonstrated capability to deliver multiple programs/projects/studies at the same time
+ Strong networking skills with ability to work across departments, organizations and regions
+ Strong leadership and coaching / mentoring and ability to manage upwards
