What You'll Do
In partnership with the Iowa Economic Development & Finance Authority’s and Iowa Insurance Division’s Insure Your Future program, Principal is seeking a Human Resources Intern for Summer 2026. The Human Resources Intern will support the HR Information Management team in advancing strategic capabilities across Data Services & Process Excellence, Data Privacy & AI Governance, and Knowledge & Information Management. They will also contribute to key initiatives that enhance scalability, compliance, and operational efficiency across global HR functions.
What You'll Do
Knowledge & Information Management
+ Support the migration of HR knowledge content from global locations into the ServiceNow Knowledge Base
+ Collaborate with global partners to standardize and localize content, ensuring alignment with organizational standards
+ Support the organization and tagging of content for improved accessibility and search-ability
Process Consultation & Documentation
+ Collaborate with HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) and Shared Services to investigate and document HR processes
+ Participate in process mapping and consultation sessions, collecting insights to drive clarity and continuous improvement
+ Assist in developing standardized documentation templates and maintaining an up-to-date process library
Data Privacy & AI Governance
+ Serve as a thought partner in exploring how HR can play a proactive role in data privacy and artificial intelligence (AI) governance
+ Assist with privacy impact assessments for HR technologies and processes
+ Research and summarize General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and global privacy regulations relevant to HR operations
Insure Your Future program
As part of the Insure Your Future program , the HR Intern will have access to peer organization intern cohort programming activities in the Des Moines metro area. You will network outside of Principal’s employee-base with other Insure Your Future program interns through structured programming. An end of summer presentation to this cohort group will be expected as part of this program. The Insure Your Future program is targeted at college first-years and sophomores.
Who You Are
+ Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Information Systems, Communications, or a related field
+ Strong interest in HR technology, data governance, and process improvement
+ Excellent communication and organizational skills
+ Proven leadership with community or school organizations and/or through formal work experience
Skills That Will Help You Stand Out
+ Familiarity with platforms like Oracle HCM, ServiceNow, Sharepoint Online, or similar HR and knowledge management tools
+ Training or certification in Lean or Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt)
+ Bilingual (Spanish/English); able to support communication and documentation in both languages
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$19 - $21 / hour
Time Off Program

Location and Work Environment
This role offers a hybrid work arrangement in Des Moines, IA. You’ll work with your leader to determine which option may align best based on several factors.
Internship Stipend
You will receive a lump sum stipend of $3,000. This amount is intended to support incidental expenses you may incur as part of your internship. The Company will provide a tax gross-up on this stipend as a financial benefit, but is not intended to compensate for all tax liabilities.
