Brief Position Overview
This position will be comprised of 50% teaching, 40% scholarship, and 10% service. Position expectations include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses for the Kinesiology program with a focus on exercise physiology; the development of an independent research program in their area of expertise funded through a combination of grants, contracts, or service testing; advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and to participate in departmental, college, and university committees, as well as community outreach.

General Statement
The Department of Food Systems, Nutrition and Kinesiology at Montana State University ( MSU ) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Kinesiology/Exercise Science, with a focus in Exercise Physiology. The position is a tenure-track, academic year appointment.

Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional duties include:
+ Teach undergraduate courses for the kinesiology program with a focus on exercise physiology.
+ Teach graduate courses in the Exercise and Nutrition Science MS and PhD programs.
+ Develop additional courses at either undergraduate or graduate level with an exercise physiology and which complement existing curriculum.
The faculty member will also be expected to:
+ Develop an independent research program in their area of expertise funded through a combination of grants, contracts, or service testing.
+ Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
+ Participate in departmental, college, and university committees, as well as community outreach as appropriate.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ Ph.D. in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physiology, or related field with emphasis in exercise physiology. ABD considered; however, doctorate must be complete upon start date of August 13, 2026.
+ Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in exercise physiology, exercise science, or closely related field.
+ A record of scholarly activity including peer-reviewed publications and/or presentations.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ An applied, human focused, research agenda which specializes in nutrition and metabolism, human performance (especially in endurance sports), skeletal muscle physiology, environmental physiology, or clinical exercise physiology.
+ ACSM certification as either a Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP) or a Clinical Exercise Physiologist ( ACSM or CEPA certified).
+ Demonstrated ability to contribute to a collegial, multidisciplinary, team-oriented environment that emphasizes collaboration and the shared use of research space, equipment, and resources.
+ Demonstrated ability to apply exercise physiology principles to various human movement areas (nutrition, rehabilitation, sports, health and fitness).
+ Demonstrated ability to advise and mentor students regarding required experiences and skills for careers or post-graduate education.
The Successful Candidate Will
+ Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
+ Demonstrate the ability to develop an independent research program funded through a combination of grants, contracts, or service testing which compliments current research in the Department.
+ Demonstrate potential to collaborate both within the FSNK Department and external to the Department, leveraging existing research infrastructure and shared laboratory spaces.
+ Demonstrate experience or interest in research or outreach activities which support the land-grant mission of serving the people and communities of Montana and beyond.
